Pray or cross your fingers...
Sorry I've been out of touch with the group. If you all recall my Dad had something happen about 5 weeks ago. Felt he was having a heart attack one morning. Chest pains, pain down his arm, blood pressure high. Turned out that it wasn't a heart attack and more than likely a serious anxiety attack brought on by his sleep apnea. Yes he has a CPAP, but doesn't use it like he should. Anyway, that's not my point. During his stay at the hospital it was discovered that his blood work was out of whack. High red blood count, high platelet count. He was adamately advised to see an oncologist. He did and his blood work came back even higher and on top of it all he had very low iron. The oncologist said that there is a 1 percent chance that he has leukemia and more than likely he has polycythemia vera. PCV is a serious increased risk of stroke, heart attack, blood clots. The only way to test for it is a bone marrow test. Tomorrow Dad is going in to have the bone marrow taken and we should know in a week the results. I am an only child and Dad's siblings are in other states and the closest one has a serious heart condition. So, if he needs marrow I'm probably his only source and that's if I'm a match. Please keep us in your thoughts. I'll keep you all in the loop and try to be online more often when things slow down a little. ON top of this Floyd's grandfather (turned 94 on Christmas) is having problems breathing from Black Lung (he was a miner) and is now on oxygen. He's moving in with my MIL, so this weekend we are going to WV to help out a little. I'll catch up when I get back.
Hi Heather.
I will be praying for your family. I am sorry about your dad. Prayerfully you will be a match, if that's even needed. Please let me know if there is anything we can do to help. Remember to take good care of yourself, always tough to do in times like these but it is important. Keep us posted.
Hugs, Robin
