My wife works for a company that had alittle over 50 employees and the owner was glad to pay alittle more for my wife to get bypass. She had it Oct. 2005 and of this week she has lost 170 lbs. So keep going on I hope to get the surgery done also, but ins companies have become harder to get approved.
I have no ins at this time and can not get ins, I weigh 585lbs and ins companies (4 so far) turn me down cause my BMI is over 30. They say I can get ins from maryland state ins plan , But it will do no good cause maryland plan will not cover any weight loss surgery (by-pass). or I am told by ins companies they will give me ins at high rate and will not cover any problems connected with my weight. The ins company my wife had drop her company in April of 2006 and my wife has ins that will not cover by-pass surgery. I have not had in for 5 years cause I work a seasonal job and they dont offer ins.All her medical needs for by-pass after April had to paid for by us. You have to be in good health to get ins or pay hundreds a month to get it.
I like to know if its now a law it must be covered by maryland cause I written the governor, both senators, and I got letters to contact MHIP and when called them 3 times and wrote once, I was told it was not covered at all. Iam not able to get medicare cause my wife makes over the limit, but I am un-employed and on un-empoyment benefits at this time and will run out in june.I was glad my wife got her surgery done cause at that time her health was worse. Now being overweigh is starting to take its toll on me and I had to fight with my weight since I was 13 and my weigh has went up and down. I will keep going till I lose the weigh or I can't fight no more. My best to you
Gary can you contact Maryland Insurance Commissioner Steven Orr or Maryland attorney generals office. Gosh I wish I had something eles to offer. I would call them myself if I thought it would help. Sue somebody! I work for PG county and they are sueing for discrimination of one sort or another. I know that sounds crappy but sometimes ya gotta look out for yourself. Tell them they are denying you your right to a quality of life. If someone can sue for someone who spilled hot coffee on themselves then I feel this is a greater need. Now I have gotten mad!! Theres alway some lawyer that is willing to take on something like this. I have seen people get loads of help for drug addictions or alcohol addictions but folks just don't see this as the same thing. I hear all the time just stop eating. Go for a walk. I get so sick of hearing it. I would if I could. So its an addiction of sorts. Now I guess I will crawl off my soapbox. Sorry. It just makes me so angry....

Your right people see me in store or other places and they make comments they think you cant hear like look that fat boy. I am sorry to say a drunk can go out and drive and kill someone and they are treated better then a overweight person.Just 2 days ago I was leaving a resturant with my famliy and only thing I eat was a bowl of soup for lunch and as I was walking out a man and woman in their 60s made a comment to each other about my weight that I should be assamed of my self for being this big! They think I did not hear them and when I statred to turn around and give them a few choice words my wife stopped me and said just let it go. I and alot other people in this world get alot cap cause of our weight A friends daughter killed herself because of the teasing she took at high school. I will keep trying to get my weight down or die trying and I stay a upbeat and joking person so please do so yourself.
