Well, as of this a.m., our injured Trooper seems to be holding his own. God knows how, because the bullet bypassed his body armor and went through his body, hitting several major organs. His condition remains critical but stable. So please continue to keep him, his family and our Department in your prayers. These men and women do such an incredible job of keeping us safe, for comparatively little pay. Thanks, Tia

Tia, is this the same trooper I heard about whose surgeon operated on him 10 years ago as well?

Hey Heather - Yep, 10 years ago, he was flagging speeding vehicles down - the official name is a Foot-Stopping Patrol, which I personally think is incredibly dangerous, when he was struck by a vehicle that had swerved to avoid other vehicles that had stopped in front. He flew 60 feet in the air, into another Trooper who attempted to break his fall. Dr. Scalea, who's a world-renowed surgeon, and the head of the Trauma Center, took care of him then and is taking care of him now. Fate's a funny thing, but hopefully, he'll recover this time, too. Hey, I saw an interview on the news last night with Dr. Scalia...he said that when they brought the trooper in, he saw Dr. Scalia and said "oh good, things will be okay if you're here"...made me tear up...heck, the Dr. was even kinda choked up as he said it.

Oh, yeah, when I first heard the doctor talking and heard HIM being emotional, I thought, "Oh, no, this isn't good!" but apparently, they had developed a real friendship. I can tell you that our Troopers/Pilots/Medics have a profound relationship with the Trauma Center staff, particularly because they are sometimes patients, too. It's just too scary considering the fact that it bypassed his body armor. That's still amazes me. The last I heard is that things are looking positive, but he's not yet out of the woods. Thanks, T.
