need advice please
I got home from the hospital last Fri. By Tuesday I was feeling pretty good, and able to drink the protein, take meds and vitamins. Was also getting in water. Thursday night about 8:00 everything started goind downhill. I was no longer able to keep anything down, water, meds, etc. I went to the hospital and Frii night and they said I was dehydrated and potassium low. They released me 4 hours later. I'm still not able to do anthing except sip some water.Anybody else experience this. How long did it last????
I, too, was feeling horrible and close to dehydration. Not as bad off as you though. My nurse did say i could stop taking the vitamins since they too made me sick. They stressed the goal initially was to get the fluids in. Can you forget about the other stuff just to try and keep yourself hydrated? Protein drinks still gag me and i haven't found one i can use. I am trying to get it in in food but i am further out then you and not sure what your doctor allows. I can't eat much of anything b/c i have to save room for the protein. I real drag but i just can't do the drinks without getting nauseous. I hope it gets better for you.

Hi Pat
I had a similar experience back in January 2006. I suspect for me it had something to do with having IV nausea and anti-inflammatory medication at the hospital- which made me feel GREAT!
Then when discharged- I was off of the IVs and no oral medications for these symptoms. A week or so later I managed to get some anti nausea medication but not before being sent to ER - waiting for hours- to get IV fluids due to mild dehydration.
While it seems like forever when you are expereincing these symptoms- after the first month to month and a half - it was completely resolved for me. I had a lactose intolerance too which was worse after surgery. Now I take lactaid 4-5 times a day whenever I eat- whetherr or not the food appears to have lactose in it or not- and GI symptoms are SOOOO much better.
Take care,
Karen
