Double T Diner
I went with my son this evening to the Double T Diner in Catonsville. I looked at the children's menu which had a decent list to select from for dining choices. I explained about my dietary requirements and was denied to select from that menu.
I was forced to purchase a dinner item that included a salad, soup, and vegetable. They did allow me to switch out some items for vegetables that I felt I could eat.
I chose stuffed shrimp. I couldn't eat 1 entire shrimp. The meal cost $20 and some change. My entire meal came home in a box.
When I got the check, I became angry as it totalled to $49. I don't begrudge the item my son chose to eat. I was very unhappy at being forced to select way more food then I could consider eating and then having a mandatory 15% tip added to my bill. I think that is fine for a table of 6 or more, but for two!
I would recommend that we boycott Double T. I plan to write a letter of complaint concerning their lack of flexibility for those with different dietary requirements.
That is a terrible happening for you. I have been to the Double T in Passadena...and the waitress let me order of the children's menu. She just asked me to not going to the cashier with the other adult I was with.... It bothered me trying to be so secretive..and playing such a game. Needless to say...I don't plan on eating there again. Too many other places that are more accommodating...
Hi Aime,
I've not been to a Double T except for breakfast (it's not even one of my favorite choices for breakfast), but I would definitely mark it off my list of possible dining choices. I can't imagine the mandatory 15% for 2 people. I was annoyed last spring at a place that put the tip on a check for 4 people. Mr Mo and I are very good tippers (usually 20%) but being 'forced' to tip 15% ensures that they will ONLY get that 15% even if we would have given more on our own.
I often times will still pick an appetizer as a meal rather than trying to eat a whole meal (and even then sometimes bring it home in a box).
Hugs, Mo
I am sorry you had that experience. I have been lucky that so far every restaurant I have been to has been very accommodating. I haven't been to a Double T since before my surgery. Sometimes it helps to ask to speak with a manager about this kind of stuff. Our hospital gave us cards to be able to show should we run into any problems. I know that I don't like paying for a meal that I know I'll eat less than half of. A lot of the time the food isn't good for eating the next day, depending on what you order. (like salads, they usually wilt before I can eat the leftovers)
I hope your next dining out experience will be more positive.
Hugs, Robin
They did get a manager. I guess I should have left. I had promised my son lunch even though it became an early dinner for doing something special for me. We could have gone somewhere else. He had never eaten there and wanted to try it. He was also displeased at the level of service we received. (He now knows what waiting table is like since he works at Rolling Road Country Club as a waiter.)
I have been to the White Marsh Double T a few times since surgery. I got a cup of soup once and the other time got the spinach pie a la carte. Besides them asking "Is that all you want?"- I had no issues with them.
I have ordered a cup of soup sometimes and then take a piece of shrimp or chicken or whatever entree the person i am with is having and haven't had a problem with the waitstaff.
I never have gotten a mandated tip on my bill there either.
Sorry to hear of your experience. Perhaps its location/waitstaff specific and not a system problem with Double T in general.
