Protein shakes and breakfast
Hi Julie,
The shake/iced coffee drink that I mix up to carry with me is about 20 ounces of fluid but more 'liquid-y' than a shake with about 20-25 grams of protein. Fluids really do not do much for me in terms of 'filling' me up for very long. I often times will have a South Beach meal replacement bar (for another 19 grams of protein) within an hour of having my morning drink.
I'm farther out than a lot of our group, and not exactly a poster-child for WLS either, but I don't think you are experiencing anything too different from the 'normal'.
Have you tried having oatmeal in the morning as well?
Hugs, Mo
Hi Mo,
Thanks for your reply. I feel a little more normal now, heh heh, whatever that is! I would probably choose to go hungry rather than eat oatmeal but it gives me some ideas of what I can eat. I love that you get additional protein from the protein bar. I am just beginning to veer beyond the rigid eating plan I have had after the surgery so it is good to get some healthy ideas.
Thanks again-
Hugs back at ya,
Julie
Hi Julie, your note about oatmeal made me want to tell you about my oatmeal I had for breakfast. 1 packet of instant 2 splenda packets, 1/2 tiny box of raisins and about 10 almonds broken up. GOD was it GOOD! MMMMM! Can you RNY gals use splenda? I know it's artificial sweetener, but I know for diabetics that it can make your body think it has sugar. Didn't know if it would make you dump. I have a band so I don't know, just curious.
I am 17 months out now. I usually start my day with a Nectar protein "shake", because I have to have something more than water to take my iron with. Then I go to Curves and work out. When I get home, after drinking water and getting dressed for work I have either some cottage cheese, a protein bar or a cup of decaf mixed with protein cocoa. The warm drink seems to stay with me longer than the cold ones.
But I do try and stick with the 30 minute rule -- no liquids within 30 minutes of solid food.
