New to the maryland board
Hello everyone my name is Meaka and I am new to the board, I am scheduled for surgery on 11/09/06 lap RNY at Holy Cross in Silver Spring Maryland with Dr. Gary Harrington. I am excited about this new chapter in my life, but I am also a little wary of how the first few weeks after the surgery are going to go.
Hello Meaka,
Welcome! Congrarulations on your surgery. I want to wsh you the best. I haven't had surgery I really do not have any advice about post op but all I can say is that you have found a group of wonderful people that are very supportive. I think if you follow your dr's orders post op to a T you will do great. My girlfriend had surgery in may of 06 she is also a member here and she is doing great. She only had minor issues after the surgery. Like a lot of gas pains and nausea but once she overcame that it has been smooth sailing since.
Best wishes to you!
The dr's at Holy Cross are great I had my last two kids there and has always gotten nothing but the best care for me and my kids.
Hopefully I can meet you on the losing side someday soon.

Welcome Meaka. I am 3 1/2 weeks post op now. I had RNY on 10/12. I went back to work last tuesday. I have had very minor issues. My worst problem was boredom sitting at home. The diet wasn't hard for me to follow at all. I am already down 21 lbs at 3 weeks. I'm sure you will be fine after the surgery. I would recommend that you get the chewable vitamins and the protein mix. I bought liquid vitamins and liquid protein. It is now sitting in my refrigerator waiting for me to toss them. I still have a hard time with waste. I found the taste to be unpleasant. Bearable, but unpleasant.
Also, tylenol now has a chewable pill called the Go Tablet. I have found it more than adequate for any discomforts after I stopped the pain medication. Good luck and stay in touch with the group.

Hi Meaka,
My name is Chavon and I am also new to the Maryland board. I have been posting to the general board for awhile but I found the Maryland board today. Welcome to you though. My surgery was June 19, 2006. I had open RNY and the first few weeks were not so bad. I followed the dr.'s orders exactly and things went well for me. I actually have more discomfort (after eating something wrong) now then I did right afterward. I am down 90lbs as of Monday morning They say everyone has a different experience. Make sure you have the foods your doctor lists and follow instructions including supplements, you should be good.
