2 questions from a newbie
Friends, I have my surgery date for lap band with DVR on 12/8.
Two questions?
Can anyone recomend a good book that discusses food after surgery...menus do's and don'ts etc...?
Also, maybe a dumb question. Immediately post op when you are on clear liquids do you still feel hungry since the fliuds would pass through the pouch quickly??
Thanks all. 33 days and counting!
Don
Don, first question...your doctor will give you directions as to what you are to eat post op. If not prior to surgery, you will have it the day you are released. My doc had me take in clear liquids in the hospital and was sent hom on full liquids for 2 weeks and then transitioned to mushies, etc. Each doc is different. Question 2...I GUARANTEE you will NOT be hungry immediately post op. Your tummy will feel bloated like you've already eaten. I had surgery at 9am in the morning and got to eat something around 2pm. I did eat a little bit (I mean LITTLE) and was honestly not interesting in food. I'm one of the few LapBand patients on the Maryland site. Feel free to ask me anything and also check in with the Band forum too!
Don,
Our practice gives us a big binder outlining what we can and can't eat. It also offers suggestions. Unlike the other poster i found i was hungry but not terribly. I didn't experience a whole lot of surgical pain and i guess i just wanted to eat. That aspect actually got more difficult for me as the clear liquid phase dragged on. Once i went ahead to full liquids it got easier. Not so bad anymore. I did not have the banding though, I had the RNY so i'm not sure of the difference.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Don. Congratulations on your surgery date. Time will pass so quickly.
As to your second question, I had RNY so I don't know what you will experience but I wasn't truly hungry for nearly 3 months. I did experience head hunger somewhere around the first month out but not true hunger. To your first question, I have a lot of recipes that I like from Susan Marie Leach's book, Before & After: Living and Eating Well Atfter Weight Loss Surgery. It is a good "cookbook". The beginning of the book is like a diary of Susan's experiences just before and up to I think a year and a half after her surgery. She talks a lot about all the food she ate and enjoyed once she was able to eat solid food again. I like the recipes best. I am sure her recipes will work for any type of WLS.
Wishing you all the best on your journey!
