Lap Band Fill Update...

Last Wednesday I went for my first fill but the NP couldn't get me done after 3 sticks. First of all I was surprised that it didn't hurt as big as the needle is! Anyway, I saw the surgeon yesterday and he got me on the first stick. He gave me 6 ccs in my VG band. I asked why so much because my husband got 4 his first fill and 2 his second. The said that when they went to their last conference they were told that they should start giving 6 ccs for first fills in the VG band. I did fine, but about a half hour after the fill my stomach started hurting like crazy I went home and laid down for a bit. For dinner I tried to eat some creamy soup and hot tea, but couldn't get much down because when I have a stomach ache I just don't feel like eating. I have a very sensitive tummy and it must be super swollen. I also ate about 2 hours before the fill so I don't think that helped, but nobody told me not to eat lunch before a 3:00 appt. Anyway, all night I was burping and having reflux. I contacted the NP this morning and she told me to take Zantac or Pepcid for the reflux and to just keep sipping on warm liquids because I sounded tight and swollen. Today I finally ended up a few times and out came some of the lunch I ate YESTERDAY. I still feel a bit yucky, but not as much tummy pain as yesterday. I'm sipping on some apple juice now, but I haven't really eaten much at all today. A few sips of protein shake this morning, a few sips of chicken soup tonight, now the juice. I just feel like curling up in a ball and sleeping. A very good friend here who had her band 2 years ago told me welcome to band hell I'm sure the swelling will keep going down and I'll be fine, but I just had to whine a bit!

Oh, Heather - poor you! Whether you're banded or rny'd - an upset tummy is an upset tummy. It sounds like you're doing everything right, though, especially by sipping soothing things. I hope this resolves quickly for you! Be kind to yourself. Whine away, I'll be here allllll day long!! Tia

Heather, I hope you are feeling better. It's no fun in the beginning, not that I have been where you are (had rny) but still, I think all WLS patients, no matter what type, have some bumps in the road in the beginning. Hang in there. It'll be worth it. Hugs, Robin
