Hi! I will soon be scheduled for surgery. I am having a sleeve gastrectomy. Looking for others that have had this surgery. Anyone out there?

Welcome Linda.... Congrats on your decision to change your life... Can you explain or at least give us a mini-education on your procedure...I have never heard of it. Thanks RAE

The sleeve gastrectomy is a procedure where most of the stomach is cut away leaving just a "sleeve" shape. Less room for food and no hunger hormones for a while. My doctor recommended it to me because I have a lot of polyps in my stomach and with this surgery you don't lose absorbtion so less chance of osteroporosis. If you google it, you can get a lot more technical information. Thanks for asking and welcoming me. Linda

Good luck on your surgery. I had mine last week 10/12. I am feeling pretty good. Can't wait to get this drain out tomorrow. I am so glad I found this site also. I got questions answered and fears allayed. Aime

Hi Linda and welcome to the Maryland Board! We have the same surgeon, but I didn't know that Dr. Greene performs sleeve gastrectomies. Was it hard to get insurance approval for this procedure? Do you attend the support group meetings? I will be at this Sunday's meeting, maybe I will meet you there? Elizabeth
