Is anyone having problems with breaking the plateau?
I've been hard pressed to get through this one. I should be happy. I'm down 147lbs since my first consult with Dr. G last November, 102lbs since the surgery in Feb, and a whopping 166lbs since this time last year...I just feel like I should still be losing. I've upped my excercise and cut back some of the snacking (I found myself grazing) but nothing's working. Anyone else have an issue that lasted for a month or so? What did you do to break through? What did you do to help your psyche at the same time? Thanks!!
Marcia,
I really started to plateau at 11 months out. I had plateaued for short periods all along. At 11 months out, I went 6 weeks with no weight loss. I then lost like 8lbs. I have remained the same since early July (plus or minus the same 3lbs). I have upped by exercise and I'm eating right and doing everything else right.
I'm frustrated and trying not to obsess about the darn scale (or rather, the fact the the numbers aren't changing on the scale). I know I have continued to lose inches while I've plateaued. So I'm just sticking with this and not giving up. I WILL LOSE THIS LAST 25-30LBS!!
Keep your chin up and keep doing everything like you're supposed to, it'll start coming off again!
Take Care,
Terry
The few plateaus I have had lasted maybe 10-14 days at most and then suddenly I had a lot more urgency to urinate and seems to get out more fluid than I had consumed that day. Then the next day the scale would be 3-4 pounds less. I haven't hit a longterm plateau yet but am anticipating it since I am at surgeon's goal and want to see what it takes me to maintain this weight---so I have been eating a bit more in the last week or so as an experiment. It's great you are exercising regualarly as i haven't been too good with it- especially weight lifting for muscle building---I don't do it but need to desperately as I have probably had muscle loss during the extreme weight loss over the past 8 months.
Someone suggesting reducing the carbs by say 5-10 grams for a week and see what happens then reduce more at same interval until weigh goes down.
But 147 is a great weight---although not sure for your height.
I am dying to see some current pics of your but didn't find you on your website notabrady....or maybe i just didn't recognize which person was you comparing it to your pre-op message pic.... Tell me where to find you on your website!?!?! Seriously- the curiosity is killing me.

Hi Karen--
My website is www.myspace.com/notabrady (You might want to turn down your sound. The song on there is kind of crazy.) There's a link at the top of my profile page. On the right hand side about 1/3 of the way down is a running slide show of my progress. Of course the before pics are blurry but they get better. You look AMAZING...absolutely stunning. I'm sooooo proud of you.
Karen You've done great! You've lost a lot of weight in a very short period of time. And while I know that's all nice it doesn't help when the scale isn't moving.
What I did and not enough take measurements. This is really important if you work out. You are building muscle and toning.
Still almost 3 years out (nov '03) and my body is still changing. People think I am losing weight. no, notta... but yes, my body is getting smaller... it's the exercise (cardio, strength, flexibility,etc.).
I hate that I'm so faithful with diet and exercise that the scale stays the same but I try and keep telling myself it's just a number and how I look and more importantly feel is what counts.
I think if we tell ourselves that long enough eventually we will believe it.
Keep doing what you're doing and the scale will move. Sometimes too if you are working out a lot, you have to eat more (protein). Keep the carbs low.
Best wishes,
Lisa
