OMG It's 11 PM and the surgeons office called and cancelled my surgery

I'm supposed to have my surgery tomorrow morning and the surgeon had a family emergency and they are clearing his schedule for the entire week. I have already scheduled the time off of work (both jobs). Rushed around all night getting everything done and now this. I'm so upset!

Oh no...Michelle, I'm so sorry to hear that. I guess it couldn't be avoided, since they explained it was a family emergency. Did they give you any idea when it would be rescheduled? I know it is frustrating, but try to take a deep breath and see the positive side...it didn't happen for a reason. I'm a firm believer in this kind of thing. My surgery was all set for July 7th and it had to be pushed bac****il the 28th. I was so upset at the time and it did all work out for the best. Michelle, I am sorry to hear that but agree with Terry there may be a reason (beyond the doctor's family emergency) and it's for the best. Here's hoping you are rescheduled quickly. Hugs, Mo

Michelle, I had a similar experience with your surgeon, except that I never rec'd a phone call (from his office or the hospital) and trekked all the way down to Takoma Park/Washington Adventist Hospital at 7am during beltway rush hour only to find out I wasn't on the schedule. I was FUMING as I have an autistic child that I had to arrange special daycare for, etc. For what it's worth, the office did reschedule me for just a few days later. Keep the faith! -BJ

Thank you all for the support that you have given. You are all right....there was a reason why the surgery didn't take place today but I'm still very disappointed and overwhelmed now with trying to reschedule work and time off. I'm still waiting for the surgeon's office to call back with a definite date. Looks like it may be the 28th or 30th. I guess he's getting so backed up they are opening up a Saturday OR for him. Now it's just a waiting game. I took full advantage of it last night though because up until the phone call I had put myself on liquids for the day-not required just something I felt better doing seeing that they would be in the intestines and all that it entails. Well I got up and ate a left over chicken taco and had a big bowl of Sugar Free ice cream. Again, thanks to all of you that responded. It's really nice that I have a place to come where everyone is so nice and supportive. Michelle
