Several years RNY post op
I wanted to also share with you about my experience with the RNY. I lost 100 pounds the first year, and the adjustment to a different diet is tolerable. I could no longer drink beer (the bubbles didnt agree with me) so I learned to appreciate wine. But I also learned that the absorption of alcohol following RNY is faster, ie, you get tipsy faster. Within 2-3 months I no longer needed asthma and allergy shots, no more high blood pressure, no more acid reflux, no more elevating the head of the bed, no more outrageous cholesterol levels, no more bloating and edema. Size 54 down to 42. BUT I noticed that I traded my old food addiction for another: SEX. I developed a sexual compulsion, much as I had with food. My tired wife and I had to seek professional counseling to deal with it. (There is much research supporting substitution of one addiction for another.) Now we are pleased with the outcome, despite a ventral hernia repair at the incision line a couple of years ago. IF I NEVER LOST A SINGLE POUND, I would do it all over again, just for the improvement in my respiratory capacity and better cardiac profile.
Chris. Thanks for sharing. I'm glad that you are doing well and off the meds. As somebody who's a few months out as opposed to a few years out I have to ask you. Do you ever feel like you're no longer on a "diet", but just eating healthy? I'm still feeling like I'm dieting even though I hope to eat this healthy the rest of my life. Thanks.
