Digital Scales
So my scale is whack. If I step on it three times it tells me three totally different weights. Sometimes I'll get lucky and get two of the same - but never three times in a row. I decided this morning that I needed a new one. The one I was using was a digital "Health-o-metrics". So today I tested a bunch of scales at Bed Bath and Beyond and I bought a brand called "THINNER" (hahaha). While I was in the store I weighed the same all three times (207 with jeans and shoes on!). I got home took off my clothes and weighed and I was 204.5 - one of the times and 205.0 the other two times which is at least close enough.
ANYWAY _ my question is for those of you that have a digital scale how accurate is it? Does it tell you something different each time you step on it?
We have a digital scale that is supposed to have a weight capacity of 350.. However, I weigh 305, and when I step on it it reads "ERR". But, it works fine for my wife. I haven't found a digital scale that I like, because they've never been accurate for me. I've always blamed it on my weight, thinking the heavier I am the more inaccurate it will be. Now, I am finding that not true. Now, I just use the scale at the gym. I weigh myself for an official weight every Monday, but sometimes will get on just to make sure I'm entering the correct weight in the elliptical machine. Good luck!

Hi Megan,
I bought a digital scale at BJ's for about $40 two plus years ago. It's one of those ones that also measures body fat %. I've never successfully managed to figure out that part of it.
There are times when it comes up with an ERR .. and I just reweigh. I think it's fairly accurate because I've weighed just before I've gone to the doctor's office and gotten there and weighed the same.
Don't get hung up on the scale though. And pick a time to weigh and weigh at that time whether it's daily/weekly/monthly. You will drive yourself crazy jumping on the scale all different times of the day because your body will fluctuate.

I purchased a fancy digital scale pre-op . . . it is one of the body-fat measuring ones and that particular feature was very helpful in keeping me motivated when I would experience a plateau with no weight loss for weeks, yet the body-fat indicator would still be registering that *something* was happening LOL.
I am one of those folks who weigh every day, same time (first thing in morning). As an early post-op it would drive me crazy when I would see gains, losses and stalls. But I charted everything on www.thinnerself.com and www.fitday.com and was soon able to discern a pattern. For instance, I am famished the week before my cycle and tend to put on 5-7 pounds, which disappears the week after. I also noticed the weeks I would eat shrimp for protein, I was showing gains. This stopped once I figured out that the Old Bay seasoning was causing me to retain water due to the high sodium content.
Now that I am two-years plus as a post-op, I absolutely HAVE to step on that scale on a daily basis to keep me on track. I am finding it VERY difficult these past couple of months to maintain my weight, seems like even the tiniest infraction on my part results in a gain grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Hi Megan,
I purchased a Tanita mail scale (digital to .2 oz) several years ago before I lost weight at weigh****chers during my last weight loss attempt prior to WLS. It's great. I weighs the same thing every time I get on it (at one time)...I was going to be a smartass and say that it weighed the same thing everytime period, damnit! hehe
Sorry, my screwy sense of humor. The scale that I have is the exact same kind that they have at weigh****chers. It has a flat base and has a cord which goes to the display unit. I love it! The only downside is that it was quite expensive (over $300.00). But I needed a scale that would accurately weigh over 300lbs at the time. I haven't regretted buying it yet because I know it's accurate.
HTH
Have a great day!

ps - I'm going to try to check out Gold's Gym this week - I gotta do something because curves is not a challenge to me anymore and I'm not enjoying it.
I thought I just posted this, but guess it didn't work...
Megan,
What Gold's are you at? And, what are the fees? I am considering joining Golds again, especially if I find a location that has the Precor Abench! I used to be a member at the Silver Spring location, but cancelled when I moved to Baltimore. There is a small gym at my job that allows me to work out 5 nights a week, but I'm highly considering joining Gold's for more exercise flexibility. Only problem is that there isn't one very close to my house in Middle River... and, I refuse to go to Bally's.

Hi Jay,
I work out at the Gold's Glen Burnie south. There is a plaza with David's Bridal - I actually think the zip code is Brooklyn Park. I'll email you my cell number if you're interested in joining! My gym is HUGE and the atmosphere is awesome. Always comfortable. You have your meat heads of course but a lot of awesome people there as well. Tons of Gastric Bypass patients. The personal training team is awesome as well. The GM, Shawn is a sweetheart and the assistant GM, Marc is as well. They'll both bend over backwards to do anything they can to make you happy.
