I am 4 months post-op and have already lost 90 lbs. I feel great, look great, blah blah blah... My question is did anyone else have this big of loss in the first 4 months? How much can I expect to lose in the next 4 months? My goal weight is 250, but I'm already nearing the 300 mark. Should I adjust my goal lower? Jay

Hi Jay, I didn't have that experience at all. Has Dr S given you any guidance on a goal? My doctor doesn't give a weight goal but does give us a body fat percentage as a goal. Best wishes on your WLS journey as it continues. Hugs, Mo

Hi Jay, you might want to check out the weight loss expectations chart on the www.thinnerself.com site. I found it to be extremely accurate as far as predicting where I should be in my post-op journey. You might also want to post your question on the "Mens" forum here at Obesity Help, as I believe that you lucky guys lose faster than us girls as a rule anyway. -BJ

Hi Jay, At 4 months I had lost about 70lbs. At six months, I lost 90lbs. When I went for my checkup, the Dr's office said I was ahead of the "average" that I had lost 55% of my excess weight and that most folks had lost between 48-52% of their excess weight. Since I reached 90lbs at six months, the weightloss slowed. At 9-10 months I had lost around 120lbs and it really slowed (I stayed the same weight for like 7 weeks). I've lost a few more lbs here and there, but I'm plateauing big time. Although I've not lost any weight in the past two months ****ep ping ponging the same 3lbs), I have continued to lose inches. I think Men tend to lose faster than women. Just keep doing what you're doing and be consistent. Your body will let you know when it's done. I'm hoping mine lets me lose another 20lbs before it stops. Your doctor should be able to give you a good idea when you go for your 6 month checkup whether you're on track or not. Take Care, Terry

Hi Jay, I too was an early BIG loser.....it will slow down, but do watch what you eat and be sure to get in enough calories, fat, protein, etc... I found that if I did not eat ENOUGH I did not feel as good....also, I ate, and still do eat, carbs and fruit....I wanted to lose the weight but not overnight. There were days that I could lose 5 lbs in a day....oh what fun that was...LOL Anyway, I am at goal with approx 135 lbs gone, hopefully forever... I have adjusted my goal weight several times...started at 165, then 160, then 145..I am half-way there at 153-155 I realize that I should NOT lose any more weight...my husband and doctor tell me that I am getting on the skinny side...so I have stopped...and I look fine...but I did go through a period where the goal weight was GOD!! I needed to step away and look in the mirror instead. BTW, I lost about 10 lbs of it by having a tummy tuck and lipo....also the last 15 pounds, not counting the 10 from plastics, came off slow over the last year...so while it started fast it ended slow...which is a good thing I guess...but while I was living it I wasn't sure I was going to get there. Congrats on your success and best wishes for a continued happy journey. RAE

Hey Jay. The weight loss is overall faster for men than women. I'm at 74 at 2.5. Of course, I also have a lot to lose. I figure whatever you're doing is right for you. You wouldn't be losing the way you are unless you were doing everything you were supposed to. -Daniel

Thanks everyone! Lots of great advice. I've pretty much stopped worrying about it for now. I KNOW that I'm losing inches... and losing FAST. In four months, I'm down from a size 60 pants to a size 52. 6X shirt to a 3XLT. And, even the shoe size seems to be too big now... (and there was a humorous part to the shoe size comment that I posted in the Men's forum, but I'll leave that out since us men seem to be the minority over here.) Life is great! Jay
