Restaurant Cards
Morning Leslie -
Well, you know me, an opinion for everything. I've only used the restaurant card once, and that was at the Bonfire Seafood Buffet in OC. It's $26.99 for adults, and I knew there was no way I could or want to eat that much. I was going to order crab cakes off of their regular menu, and the price was $25.99, so I knew I'd rather have the buffet so at least I could have a little variety. I pulled the hostess aside, explained my situation, and they were wonderful, they charged me $12.50, which is the 10 year old child's price. I probably still didn't eat $12.50 worth of crab legs, but it was still a lot better than $26.99. It probably helped that I offered to show them my scars, too!!!
Having said that, I don't frequent buffets - hate the quality, and everything smells/tastes the same. Also, when I could and did eat at buffets, I never expected them to charge me more for eating more. Likewise, now, I wouldn't dream of asking them to charge me less because I can eat less. Most of the restaurants that I frequent are local and I know someone. In fact, at my fave Greek restaurant, I know two of the servers well, and they know not to give me rice or pasta, they automatically substitute roasted veggies. With the chain restaurants, it's usually easy to make healthy choices - just about everyone has some kind of fish, shrimp or even burgers minus the buns, once you can tolerate them.
So that's my personal take on it. Hope it helps!
Take care,
Tia
Hi Leslie,
I've got a 'restaurant' card from my surgeon, but I haven't really tried to use it. I often times just order from the appetizer menu. Many times there will be a grilled or steamed shrimp appetizer that works for me. I sometimes will order a soup or a chili and/or salad.
Very few places have a healthy kiddie menu (fried chicken nuggets, mac & cheese, etc). I did use my card once at a Texas Roadhouse out of state. I was able to get a beef dinner in the children's portion. Unfortunately it was so 'thin' that they were not able to cook it to order and it was like shoe leather to me, but at least they tried.
I have heard that at Outback you can order from the Buckaroo (???) menu which is some where between kiddie and adult and they have some lighter weight cuts of beef that serve well.
Best wishes as the journey continues.

I think you have Outback's Jackeroo menu confused with the Buckeroo Burger at Roy Rogers!!!! Just so you know I'm paying attention this morning!!!!! Even if she can't order off the Jackeroo menu at Outback, they have an awesome chicken dish that can serve for probably 3 meals!!!!
XOXOXO,
Tia
Hi Leslie,
I have a restaurant card and have not ever had to acutally take it out and use it. . If I don't see something I can order off of the appetizer menu then I just ask the server if I can order off of the childrens menu and explain why I am asking. I haven't had one time where they wouldn't let me do that. Another option is to share with your family. I did that one time at Olive Garden since I just wasn't in the mood for their soup and at the time couldn't eat salad. I took a few bites of everyone's meat for my plate and the server didn't have a problem at all. I have to say now that I mostly order off of the regular menu and take home what I can for my next meal or two. Leftover lunches are great!
Good luck with your experiences. I hope that you are doing well since your surgery.
Hugs, Robin
