Hi Everybody, Made it through the UGI yesterday and it was NASTY stuff, good thing you don't have to drink a lot of the stuff. Question does the stuff you have to drink the next day after surgery to ckeck for leaks taste worse???? How much of that stuff do you have to drink. As you all know this is not the easy way out to lose weight, I hate when people say that, just let them try some of these tests. Blood gas test next OUCH...... then I have to see a Vasgular Surgen to see abouth the IGV filter to be put in my leg for blood clots. Just 2 more months of this dumb diet, I need to try and lose more weight on this thing to show the insurance company that I am serious about this thing. Bobbie

Hey Bobbie - I agree, the upper GI was NASTY - it gave me horrible diarrhea!!! TMI!!! My surgery was on a Tuesday, and I went for my leak test at 8 a.m. on Wednesday - it really wasn't that bad. I think I looked at it as a means to an end, you know? Meaning that once DVR read the results - I COULD DRINK!!! Popsicles never tasted so good! You're right, let them drink nasty stuff and get poked in the wrist with a huge needle and we'll see how easy they think it is!!! For me, the worst part was the sleep study - of course, not painful at all, just a major nuisance - twice!!!! I'm assuming your IGV filter is similar to the IVC filter that I had implanted in my vena cava about a month before my surgery. I saw Dr. Michele (Michael) Cerino at St. Joe's - he's my Dad's vascular surgeon, so I knew and liked him. The procedure itself was painless - I just had some cramping in my groin for a couple of days afterward. Again - it's all a means to an end - and believe me, so worth it! You can do this and we're all behind you! Take care, Teresa

Hi Teresa, Thanks for all the information it really helps to hear it from someone who has been there done that. Thanks Bobbie PS I did have the name of that filter wrong. Does DVR have everyone get the filter and why did he want you to have one placed in????

Hi Bobbie! I am not a DVR patient, but my doc gives everyone an IVC filter. The procedure really sounds much scarier than it is and I'm almost 2 1/2 years out and never give my filter a thought any more. I sort of think of it even now as an additional 'life saving' device in case I should ever have a clot for ANY reason. Best wishes on your WLS journey. Hugs, Mo I

Hi BobbieDee I don't know the stuff for the upper GI but I heard it was nasty. The stuff they make you drink is in a medicine size cup like the ones you get when you buy cold meds and stuff but the taste wasnt to bad but After that finally came some good lemonade crystal light for me. No IGV filter for me either. My surgeon gave me socks to put on that hooked to the end of the bed that pumped up and down and they gave me a shot every morning of heprin I think it was. Good luck with all your test and your diet and surgery. Kelly

I've heard the leak test liquid isn't that bad. People tell me the Fleet stuff you have to drink to flush your system two days prior to surgery is HORRIBLE. I'm not looking forward to that (not to mention the whole "flushing your system" part!!!) I will be "flushing" while everyone else is enjoying hotdogs & hamburgers, and partaking of alcoholic beverages at Labor Day barbecues!!! Kinda sucks. Oh well, there's always next year (for the hotdogs and hamburgers anyway ... have to wait for the alcohol). ...janet
