question about eating.....
I was on liquids for 3 weeks after my RNY, then on prueed's for two more weeks after that. I did cheat - ONCE when I was still supposed to be on liquids. I had one, that's 1, Dorito and got sick as a dog from it. I chewed it up really well, and it still got stuck. I was in misery for hours. I learned my lesson and followed the protocols from there on out.
Hi Lisa,
First off, congratulations on your surgery!
Second, it gets better. Although for me I had a very painful and rough beginning. So my getting better didn't happen daily, it happened more like weekly.
Third, I was on liquids for one week. This included soups so I didn't have to just have broth and water for days at a time. Although I was in a lot of pain so I didn't eat much in the beginning anyway. My dr said as long as food could easily go thru a straw (but no drinking/eating from a straw) then it passed as a liquid.
I was on soft/pureed foods for nearly 4 weeks. I ate soup, cottage cheese, cheese, eggs, stuff like that. This stage was not so bad as I could feel like I was actually "eating".
As for the tummy rumbling, I didn't feel any kind of hunger pangs whatsoever until I was nearly 4 months out. I had a lot of head hunger but that's another story. I still only get hunger pangs if I go many hours without eating, like 6 or more, which I don't do very often as I have learned that just doesn't feel good at all!
Anyway, good luck. Do your best to stick with the plan. If you do get a hankering for something to eat, just chew, chew, chew, chew until your mouth hurts, before swallowing. lol
Hugs, Robin
Hi Lisa and congratulations on having your surgery!
I had my surgery on 7/27 and am still on a pureed diet.
I truly understand, I ventured out to taco bell for a few bites of a burito and am now experiencing possible pouch pain... I would just say like the others, hang in there snf listen to your surgeon, doctor, nutritionist etc.... I was on a liquid diet for 1 week post op, since I'm posting so late you may have already switched to a pureed diet. The pureed diet is quite satisfying and I am afraid to switch to a regular diet... I don't want the dumping or the pain and am afraid of returning to the other side of eating...
