3 days post op.. pain question....
Well. i my surgery (laporsopic) on tuesday morning.. Noo problems. the surgery was at 730am.. i woke up the first time in alot of pain then went back to sleep. the 2nd time i woke up was in my room... and i was actually cracking jokes. i was up walking the hallway by 5pm or so... they were teasing me because i was walking so fast.... i did really great... the only thing that made me hit the morphine pump was my back.. .. i came home yesterday around 4pm... slept alot....my question is..
did anyone have any pains in their right side? lower right side? i went to the er this morning.. but they said everything from the surgery is great (different hospital)... that it may be gasey pains.... my surgeon said to call him in the morning... so. was just wondering..... btw.. i absolutely love my surgeon.. Dr. Fullum.. what a great guy.... anyways. that's about it.
Lisa -
Glad your surgery went well; I've heard lots of good things about Dr. Fullum. It's amazing how painful gas can be, but you're doing the right thing by walking lots and also by calling him if you're concerned.
When I woke up after lap rny, I had the most horrific pain in my left shoulder - the nurses said it was "referred pain" from the anesthesia. It finally went away, though. I guess, since they pump us full of air, the pain could be anywhere.
Did you come home with a drain? I did, and that caused me a lot of pain, too, just from its positioning, until it was taken out 10 days later. I guess the pain could be from a lot of different things, but you're right to call him anyway. Move as much as you can, it really will make a difference.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Take care and good luck,
Teresa - lap rny 8/2/05 - 370/235/170
Hi Lisa,
congratulations on your surgery!!! Yep, just like Teresa said, the gas pain can be pretty bad. It's not at all fun. Just keep walking, even if it's just 5 minutes every half hour or so. Keep up the water and liquids. Can you take any pain meds? Although that never seems to help my gas pains. I still get a lot of gas pain, especially when I eat something that doesn't agree with me, it results in gas pain since I can't throw up. That' probably TMI. Sorry.
Hang in there, every week will be better than the last!
Hugs, Robin
Dr. Fullum is wonderful...my boyfriend had the surgery with him back in Feb and just like you he experienced awful pains. Dr. Fullum and Chris were right on call when we contacted them, they explained it was just gas and to take mylanta. He did that and kept off the morphine and started feeling a lot better. Good luck to you!
