If anyone here is a member of LifeTime Fitness in Columbia, send me a message... My better-half and I just joined, and I figured we could start our own "team fitness" workout group. I'm a new post-op... currently my BMI is about 35, after losing about 40 lbs. email me at carolinaweasel-obesity AT yahoo DOT com. (it will go directly into my health folder with that address.) thanks all!

AM, I was considering joining but was a little intimidated. Can you give me any idea what they have to offer (specifically for women) and at what price? Thanks! Terry

At the Columbia location, the prices are currently: $219 initiation fee for a single person $300 for a couple (or close.) Monthly for a single is $60 or so.. for a couple, it's $105 or so. Yes, it is expensive, but we compared it to the YMCA, and they are worlds apart in every way. The Y is basic and concrete, with no "bells and whistles." It's not my style, and I would be depressed there. Couples pay $72 per month at the Y, with a $99 initiation fee per person. It was not worth the cheaper price to us at all, especially because they close at 7 PM on weekends, and we like doing stuff in the evenings. LifeTime has a website. I think it's http://www.lifetimefitness.com They are open 24 hours, and have: 2 indoor pools (with separate lap area) 1 outdoor pool (with separate lap area) whirlpool spa outside and inside. outdoor and indoor cafes (with wireless access, I believe.) a yoga and pilates "wing" (75 classes a year are included free) more circuit training and aerobics equipment than you can imagine, so there is never waiting for that prize abdominal machine. A hair salon with manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing, and massages available lots of extensive childcare options (and kid classes) all sorts of optional teams and classes, from Dodgeball to Salsa dancing a 4 story rock climbing wall gorgeous locker rooms with TV lounges and private changing rooms (for women) free lockers (with free locks) and towels (and towel service) a lovely unisex "family" locker room for families to change together (in private changing rooms) a couple of gymnasiums racquetball courts I think I said all of it! We spent the day there again today, and I feel great. I see larger people fairly often there, so I am comfortable. There are definitely all shapes and sizes at this place.
