So, just a bit of background. In 2003 I weighted 260 pounds. I got engages and managed to shed 70 pounds by August of 2004. In October of 2004 I found out I was pregnant. I had a beautiful baby girl in July. Needless to say, after she was born I lost little weight and ended up back up at 260 pounds. My husband just got a new job in MD (I am living in PA) and we have a regional health insurance plan. I was hoping that someone could tell me what I would need to do about getting more information about WLS. I do not know what kind of Dr. to go to. Also, we want to have another baby, but want to wait until we move to Maryland. I am not sure if I should just wait to talk to someone until after we get pregnant with a new baby or start looking into it now. Thanks! Carrie

Hi Carrie, Welcome I would think you should start by checking with your PCP. At the top of the OH website, there are tabs for Bariatric/Plastic/Other Doctors. I don't know what to tell you regarding having a baby or gastric bypass surgery first. The only thing I can say is to review the information available on this site and gather all your information/have consultations with physicians and then after you're fully informed you can make a reasonably well thought out decision regarding if/when to have gastric bypass. I would recommend my surgeon or his partner in a heartbeat. There are several outstanding bariatric surgeons in the Baltimore area. Good luck on your research and as always, if you have any questions just ask Take Care, Terry

Thanks Terry! I also have to find a new PCP b/c of all this insurance crap! I will put that as the first thing to do!

I believe that my surgeon advises his patients not to get pregnant for at least a year after surgery on account that your body really isn't ready to take on the calories needed to support another life before then. Other doc's may be different though. -Daniel
