Hi, everyone...I have decided to have the surgery after a lot of research and watching my boyfriend excell at his weight loss, he had surgery in February of 2006 and has lost over 100lbs. I was going back and forth with insurances while my job had open enrollment. I called Mamsi Optimum Choice today, which is who I thought I was going to go with and found out that WLS is not covered because there is an exclusion. So I decided to stay with Kasier, after calling them to verify the surgery is covered, they said yes it is you just have to go through steps, etc. I have already been seeing a nutrionist through my PCP but know I will have to do more...just wondering who out there has dealt with Kaiser and your expereiences. Thanks!

Hi Jamie, I can't offer any information on Kaiser, but I just wanted to welcome you to the board. If you have any questions, fire away! Take Care, Terry

Hello! Welcome! I hope this site helps you as much as it has helped me! Before you jump off of the MAMSI option, make sure you call and speak to a supervisor there. I was told that I had an EXclusion too, but after 5 phone calls later, it turned out that there was an INclusion for the surgery. I was told that a lot of their employee's see an addendum to the WLS section and take it as an exclusion rather than an inclusion. I was approved with MAMSI Optimum Choice within 48 hours. I had Kaiser prior to my MAMSI and had a terrible time with them...plus with MAMSI, I am covered 100%...with Kaiser I had to pay 10% of the surgery out-of-pocket.

Hey! You can always look under insurances to see people's different experiances. I have Mamsi and it was covered, double check with them only because the second time that I called they said no but, that person was wrong. If you have a surgeon you might want to also have them call and see. I know people in my support group had Kaiser but didn't have it with a Kaiser surgeon, they said it's a fight but well worth it. Good Luck, Elana
