Pre-Op

My nurse practioner called me today she is trying to get a late August Surgery date. Sending Aetna PPO a request for approval. Now I'll just wait, I'm opened to any suggestions about the days leading to my surgery. I have done a lot of reading. I started this journey last year and decided not to have surgery, but I could not get past 270 lbs, so I decided that it was time to research WLS.

Deborah - Here's hoping all goes smoothly for you. I got immediate approval at my first consult in March for my surgery in August, and the time flew by!!! Of course, it was full of all of the testing my surgeon required, and before you knew it, it was here. Of course, I spent a lot of time on here, continuing to read/research. My emotions were all over the place, but never once did I doubt my decision to have the surgery. Of course, I also had to check in monthly with the nutrionist and do kind of a pre-op diet. Not sure what your doc/nut's requirements are, but I'm srure you're busy complying with all that. I also spent the last month or so getting my affairs in order. I know it sounds morbid, but better to be prepared. I really wasn't worried about dying (sorry), but I had an attorney friend draw up an advanced directive, power of attorney and will. It was probably about $200 worth of work for him, but he did it pro bono for me. I just felt better having it done, and actually, it makes sense to have that taken care of even if you're not having surgery. Less for the family to have to deal with, you know? You may want to start ordering some protein samples if you haven't, but I say samples because your sense of taste/smell may change post-op. Again, I hate to sound like a broken record, but a lot of it will depend on your requirements. I'm sure, at your pre-op appt. with your doc/nut, you'll get all the info you need. Hang on for the ride of your life, and let us know if you need anything! Take care, Teresa lap rny 8/2/05 - 370/236/170

Hi Deborah, Welcome to the group ! I spent 2 1/2 years on doing it 'myself' one last time before I finally came to the realization that WLS was my last resort and right for me. Best wishes as your WLS journey continues. Hugs, Mo

Hi again Deborah, I forgot to mention above, but we are having an informal get together at Arundel Mills on Sunday August 6th, please consider joining us there to meet fellow WLS-ers at various stages in their journeys. We are meeting at the Blue Star Grille at noon. Watch the board in the coming week(s) for more info! Hope to see you there. Hugs, Mo
