Hi this is my first time logging on. I was curious if any one knew of some tolerable protein shakes I could try

I still am looking. But the Atkins stuff you get in cans at your local Wal-Mart or CVS isn't bad. It's just a tad expensive for me. In lieu of that, I tend to use Unjury, mainly because my doctor recommends it, delivery is VERY fast, and it's not bad. My wife, who is getting the surgery soon, favors the Isopure products, mainly because they tend to have a LOT of protein. I think they're awful, but some people swear by them. I prefer to dissolve my protein in things I already drink, that have a strong flavor - like vanilla powders in my coffee instead of creamer - or unflavored protein in Diet V-8.

Hi and welcome ! I've used both the EAS Advantage and Designer Whey protein powders that I buy in bulk from BJ's wholesale clubs. I've never found either of them to be particularly nasty though I think each of us has different tastes in things. In the a.m. I take a cup of crushed ice, two cups of ice cold water, 2 scoops of instant Folgers decaf, a scoop to scoop and a half of vanilla protein, 3 to 4 equal packets, 1/3 cup powdered non fat milk and toss it all in a shaker container. I shake it well and put the whole container in my brief case and carry it to work. By the time I get to work any residual unmixed or blended stuff seems to have disolved. I just give it another couple of shakes and sip on it. To me it is every bit as good as an iced coffee drink from Starbucks. The only time I seem to have a problem is if I 'forget' the Equal packets. Then it's not so good, but I think some of that is the bitterness of the instant coffee. I've used vanilla protein, crushed ice and either orange Fruit2o or even Crystal Light Sunrise to make shakes in the blender that taste like orange creamsicles. There are tons of recipes for making protein shakes. I tend to keep mine simple but there are lots of things that can be done. Best wishes on your WLS journey. Hugs, Mo

Hi, At first I used the UNJURY but after awhile the thought of another milky, thick protein drink made me want to puke. I started using Nectar Lemon Tea. This tasted like Iced Tea with Lemon. It had a protein smell and taste which I did not like. So then I tried Nectar Tealicious, which is all natural (not sure what is unnatural in the Lemon Tea and the other Nectar Flavors maybe it's the aspartame, I dunno). Upon first sip of mixing a scoop of Tealicious with 8-10 oz of cold water, I drank it and it was WAY too strong and sweet. So I experimented with it and began mixing it with 16-18 oz of water and then topping the cup off with ice to reach 20 oz. This suits me perfectly. It tastes just like instant iced tea (no protein smell or taste at all). When I want a change up, I'll throw a packet of the True Lemon crystallized lemon flavor in it. HTH Take Care, Terry

I have always liked the Permalean Protein powder. No sugar. Mix with 4 oz or water and 20G protein. It's versatile in early post-op (when 4oz takes forever to get down) and longer post-op (now I mix fruit or add a scoop of anyWhey, etc.). You can find it at Your Prescription for Health in Owings Mills (they have mail order, and they carry the Bariatric Advantage Vitamin line), and I think it might be on the Sinai Bariatric site (I've never purchased from them so I don't have any experience with how timely, etc. they are). Oh, I like the Vanilla because of it's versatility. The chocolate is really good too. Best wishes, Lisa

I bought the 100% Whey Protein powder mix from GNC and its Bannana Creme and it is so good with milk and sprinkle in vanilla pudding.

Hello Cheyanne, I have tried many protein packs but I think tha Matrix protein powder is the best because it dissolves easily and you don't get that horrible after tast that comes with most of them. I purchased it from www.bariatriceating.com. another one to try is Nectar which comes in juice and tropical flavors. Go to the website and order a sample of all the protein they offer. You'll be able to make a better decision after you try the samples. I ordered the Ice tea and it is good also. Good luck with your search.

Thanks everyone who helped me with my question about the protein shakes. I was a little nervous about logging on at first and I am surprised that people actually responded to my question.

Good to hear from you. Did you get your surgery done already and if so how did it go. I read your profile but it didn't say much. Girl I am so disappointed. You know I have been way to big for so long and I thought everything was going as planned. Then when I found out my insurance was requiring a six month history I just got so down. I was hoping to have my surgery the beginning of September. It would not have been a problem if I had known this before I got so excited BUT THIS IS SOMETHING THEY JUST STARTED LAST WEEK. Anyway we shall see what tomorrow brings. I went to this diet doctor before so I hope I can get some documentation from him. Write me back.
