Well I changed insurance companies and I knew going in that this new company had an exlusion covering WLS but I was hoping it would fall under the MD mandiate for WLS since it's a large group policy and "I thought the policy was in MD" turns out the policy is in VA Guess I'll have to wait until Jan 07 for new insurance or self pay. Has anyone else had this issue??

Jeannie, I'm sorry to hear about your exclusion. I know that it's not much consolation, but Jan 07 isn't really THAT far away (well, at least for me .. I've discovered the older I get the faster time passes ). Anyway, there are things you can do to start preparing .. like just in case the new insurance in January requires a 6 month supervised diet/documentation you could start that now with your PCP so it's taken care of when you switch and you don't have the delay of waiting, etc. I realize there is probably other testing that you can't do until the time comes, but that 6 month thing would be a really good headstart on your WLS journey. Best wishes on your journey. Hugs, Mo

Thank you all very much for your words of encouragement. I have been doing a PCP supervised weight loss program since Aug 05. I have been going each month for my weigh in visits faithfully so I have almost 12 months of superivsed diet. So I will have all that complete. I know the time will fly. I've waited this long, whats another 6 moths and I guess if that company has an exclusion or denies my request, I'll just self pay. URGGHH!!

Don't lose hope sweety! I started talking to the doctor about this in September of 05 and didn't have surgery until about 8 weeks ago. It goes by fast, trust me. My husband's insurance had an exclusion and wouldn't cover ANYTHING related to obesity or weight loss. So I switched to my work's insurance and they required the 6 month diet. A lot of companies require that. I work with insurance so trust me, it's best to get your ducks in a row ASAP. Good luck and I wish you success and happiness. hugs! Danielle
