Hi Darlene,
I just had surgery with Dr Schweitzer last Thursday. He is very good at what he does and has a great complication rate which is close to nil. Now, he won't be the doctor to sit by your bedside and comfort you but you DO want him rearranging your GI system. He's a pleasant man whom I've done well with thus far.
Now what brings you all the way from Texas to see Dr Schweitzer? Do you have family/friends in the area?
Good Luck,
Sue

Darlene,
I'm a pre-op of Dr. S's. My PCP (and everyone else) all say the same thing--"If he's at Hopkins, he's the best of the best". I feel very confident in my decision to go with Dr. S. You'll be in good hands.
Hi Darlene. i'm also a pre-op of Dr S. I had my initial consult in May and I"m still working on my pre-op stuff (Marcia, thanks so much for the list. Finally figured out how to open it LOL).
When I had my consult, Dr S was training a new surgeon. Well, not a new surgeon but she was learning to do WLS. So, I did a lot of my info gathering with her. I should also mention I had hubby and my 1 year old twins with me, in the exam room. So, when I met Dr S he was very professional and thorough. He asked why I was interested in the DS and explained the risks, benefits of DS over RNY, told us specifically what would be done and answered any questions. I was pleasantly surprised because I expected someone who wasn't very personable, from what I read. Now, he wasn't the touchy-feely, hand-holding type but he wasn't "cold" either. Just very professional and serious (good qualities for a surgeon).
So far I've completed my 6 month doctor superviser diet. I have my nutritionist appt next week. I have to call tomorrow to schedule my psych eval and, once i get that done, Debbie will be able to submit to my insurance. I'm hoping that by the end of August I'll have everything done and have my approval.
Do you have someone traveling with you to help you out? How long will you be staying in Maryland?
