I had RNY surgery last 5/20/05 thinking that if I lost weight, that my legs would feel better and they would stop buckling. Before surgery the only way I could get around is by walking with a cane. I would stand up, take two steps and end up on the ground. That would happen all the time. All I could think of is here is a person that is so heavy her legs won't even hold her up. My husband likes big women so everytime I said something to him is "why do you think that way, why do you let it bother you". I have tears in my eyes right now even thinking about it. Anyway, common sense get the weight off the legs and the legs will be better. WRONG! My legs still give out, constantly. Last Nov at work I was getting out of my car turned around and started walking and down I went. This time it was different though. I went to get up and blood was everwhere. The ambulance was called and I was whisked away to the hospital. In the end everything was okay but I looked like someone beat the crap out of me. My face was swollen and bruised, way until after the holidays. I have had three operations on legs and wished that I had not down any of them. I have a torn ACL and going to live with it. I have been to so many doctors and not one can give me a reason my legs buckle. Too help me from falling some times I have gripped the floor with my feet and toes. Well, that has curled up my toes and now I have hammertoes. If you do not know about them - they hurt, but only when you walk. Doing good huh? I went to a foot surgeon hoping that he could operate and fix my toes, but he said why operate they make so many differnt types and colors of tennis shoes these days. That's the only kind of shoes that I can wear. I can't even wear sandals, I need the support. Ayway, except for one special doctor who did my RYN surgery (Dr. Lin). I just feel like telling them off. Thank you all for letting me vent, I needed it! Good Luck to all having surgery, it's gonna change your life in a fantastic way! I have gone from a size 24 to a size 8. I never thought that I would be in a single digit size clothes. Pat

Hi Pat, Congraturlations on your weight loss. I'm sorry to hear about your leg troubles. Have you tried to get your PCP to refer you to NIH or some other program concerned w/muscles, balance, etc? If you haven't already, try surfing the Net to see if there are others out there that share your problem. You may find out about something that your doctors haven't checked. Best wishes, EW
