Has this happened to anyone else?
I am 9 days post-op with open rouen. Everything tastes metallic. Prior to the surgery I was a big water drinker, now even bottled water taste terrible. I knew my taste would change, but everything I put in my mouth wither has no taste or taste metaliically. My husband had this surgery 6 years ago. I don't remember him having this problem. I am going crazy. I can't drink and eat as I am supposed to because everything tastes weird. Has this happened to anyone else?
Hi Karen,
Congratulations on your surgery and new birthday!!!! I had that for a little while and just suffered thru it. I used crystal lite to flavor the water which helped a little and the only protien shakes I could stomach were the EAS chocolate fudge (and I wasn't a chocolate person before the surgery). I used to drink a lot of water also --- my biggest hurdle to overcome was realizing I couldn;t chug or gulp anymore but had to take small sips. Big reality check even when you're very, very thirsty!! Hopefully this passes quickly for you. pat
I used to get this whenever I was sick prior to WLS but have been doing really well post op. For me it was a sign of dehydration, which I was terrinle about getting in fluids when I was sick. I've only been sick once post op and I made sure to get in all my fluids plus some. Get fluids in you and call your doctor. The advice, when medical, really needs to come from them.
Hope you feel better.
Karen,
I kind of had tha****er has to be ice cold and eventually I started drinking Fruit2O Plus (flavored waters with no carbs) with extra vitamins. I drink at least 4 20 oz bottles a day.
You might want to try it to see if it works. The metallic taste is probably your body in ketosis.
Hope you find a way to resolve this.
Take Care,
Terry
