I don't get it ... help me to understand - PLEASE!
Has there ever been anyone to not lose weight having had this surgery?
I'm 3 weeks post op today. I left the hospital weighing 272. I came home and in the first week 1/2 I dropped weight like super easy down to 250. The past week 1/2 not only have I not lost a single lb but this morning I got on the scale and had gained 6lbs from 250 to 256. I am beyond tears.
I've been constipated for over a week. Actually, I've been constipated since I left the hospital. My surgeon suggested that I take a laxative. I did that the first two times to have a BM however I hate having to continue doing so.
I work out ridiculous amounts. 3-5miles a day on the treadmill, 3-6 miles a day riding my bike, I joined Curves yesterday and have worked out two days in a row there. I'm getting all of my protien in mixed with food and shakes (60-80g a day). Never missed a dose of vitamins. Not eating anything I shouldn't be. I don't get it.
Yes, I know that there is a common 3 week plaetu... but i've been on it since a week 1/2 out and now I'm gaining weight.
I went in the hospital 360 came home 382 picked up 22 pounds of fluid....I did lose 36 pounds the first month but I ate nothing & drank almost nothing. After the first month I moved very very slow. I have always been a slow loser. Since I started super morbidly obese it was killing me because I work so hard for every single pound I lost. I still do & after 2 1/2 years its still work. I will tell you that I am now down 160 pounds and keeping it off. Everyone told me that it will happen even if slow & it does. Please try & keep your head up because a body in depression wont lose weight, I promise you. Also dont be afraid to take laxative especially if you are on any pain meds. Just make sure you dont abuse them, take as directed. I can tell you that senokot works great without hurtin your belly. and kinda weird but true...I can weigh myself..go to the potty, weigh again & lost 5 pounds...I dont get it but its true..
Good luck keep your head up

Hi Megan -
You're ONLY 3 weeks post op. Take a minute and relax. Your body is in shock and trying to catch up with what has happened to your insides. It happens at 3-4 weeks out and can last several weeks. Mine lasted about 3 weeks where I didn't lose a thing! Talk about frustrating!! It'll make you nuts. Your body actually goes into something called hibernation mode and it's totally normal. Frustrating but normal.
Another thing to consider is all the working out, you might be picking up a little muscle weight. And, if you're constipated, might be carying a little weight there (YUCK, huh?). Take it easy for a week, drink plenty of fluids and everything will kick back in in another week or so.
Cheers,
Lynn
Ditto to all to the other posts. I also suffered constipation and do if not careful... Add some fiber into your diet. Depending on where you are try some SF applesauce or an apple. I like prunes so I would use those (carefully).
You will have these kinds of week now and forever... I wish I had measured myself or took more photo's. When you lose slower you seem to lose a lot more inches (I did) and especially when you are working out daily.
Relax, it will happen.
best wishes,
Lisa
Hi Megan,
What does the mearsuring tape say? How are you're cothes fitting? Everything is getting to larger right? Constipation been there still having a little problem even 2 yrs out. Benefiber add the bulk and is gental way of getting everthing moving slopwly. Has no taste and can be added to anything. At two months out my PCP put me on a prescription medication for constipation.Surgeon said to try MOM (milk of magnesium) only do this if you doctor sayes its okay. Just don't become a laxative bulimic/anorexic fluid 64oz minimin all the extra exercise you need to increase it even more dehydration can cause constipation. Remember your bowels have been tanpered with they are healing as weel as the outside the inside takes a least 9months to a year to fully heal.
Good luck, :cheer: throw the scale away and keep buy those smaller sizes

Hi Megan,
I hear your frustration. I seem to lose for about two weeks in a row and then nothing for 1-2 weeks. I am nearly 3 months post op and this has been my pattern from the beginning. wow, I can't believe it's been nearly 3 months. I have lost 47 lbs but I really notice the loss in my clothes and in my measurements. Remember that your body is still in shock from the major changes. You will lose the weight! We just need to let our bodies do what they are going to do. We will all lose differently and at different rates. A friend of mine has lost quite a bit more than me and we are only a month apart in surgery dates.
Keep your chin up. You will see the weight come off!
