4 days out
Hi everyone! I had RNY on Monday may 22nd and I am feeling pretty good. I have some questions though. Any food suggestions for the pureed diet? I have to do that for 2 weeks and I'm sticking to soup and jello and pudding. Oh, sugar free ice pops are the *******so, has anyone regretting doing this? I had an "episode" last night and cried quite a bit. Of course I feel better now, but last night was rough. One more question, I have horrible hot flashes. Does anyone know what that's from? I have chalked it up to the pain and soreness. It doesn't feel like "dumping" should.
Ok, thanks everyone.
Danielle
Hi Danielle,
Welcome to the losing side!
During my pureed stage I ate the following:
sliced american cheese
cottage cheese
sliced american cheese (soft, melted in my mouth)
poached eggs with saltine crackers (only saltines since they melt in your mouth)
sliced american cheese
a "wet" tuna or chicken salad made with diet mayo and onion powder...I didn't drain any of the juice off of the meat before mixing it up and I made sure I broke the meat into small pieces
did i mention american cheese? hehehe...
string cheese
pureed split pea soup made with milk (more protein)
pureed bean with bacon or ham soup made with milk (more protein)
refried beans (mixed with water to make them runny)
anything (without sugar) that I could put in the blender and add liquid to (if I had a craving for a certain taste)
I had a moment of regret the morning after surgery when the nurse asked me if I could roll over and out of the bed (to go down for the leak test)...I said to myself "Terry, what the hell have you done to yourself?" Course I was sore (never having had abdominal surgery before) and pumped full of gas and you're fat to begin with I mean that is why you'd have the surgery (not downing myself, just stating the obvious) you feel like you've got a beachball in your stomach and the size 2 nurse asks ya if ya can roll over and bounce out of bed...umm... This is true, these are the thoughts that went through my head. I've had lots of episodes where I ate a little too fast or a little too much or I had a piece of food get stuck and I've gotten the foamies and thrown up...it's instantaneous, the second the food is dislodged you feel instant relief...I will tell you what I've told several people in the midst of being sick - even with this, I'd do this again in a heartbeat. For the first time in my life, I feel like I have somewhat something of control over food. That's not to say that I never had head hunger (the overwhelming desire to eat something after all they just operate on your stomach, not your head) I am no longer addicted to carbs/sweets, I tend to go more for savory/salty things. Sure I have my moments and I usually pick something good for me. I'm trying to avoid sugar free substitutes of those foods that I used to eat (candy, cookies, etc). I don't miss them and I don't want to get in the habit of eating them again. I figure eating stuff like that (or the real stuff) (I'm not sure that I'd dump, I've only had a few instances where I've eaten something with sugar in it and even then, it's only been like 1 bite), is not going to get me to goal any faster.
I had my surgery last July and for the first few weeks, I alternated between being hot and being cold and my face was like an oil slick and then it dried out really bad...as the weight has come off, I'm frequently cold.
119lbs in 10 months and I'm off all medications as of this past week, I'd do this again in a heartbeat..I feel so much better physically and mentally.
It'll get better as you learn what your pouch can or cannot tolerate.
Are you going to join us at our get together on June 11th? I wish you would
Take Care,
Terry
Cream of mushroom soup with what ever meat I pureed along with the apropiet spices old bay with sea food , puoltry with chicken or turkey. dash of a-one sause with beef a little baumswager on cracker nibbled to nothing but sure tasted good at the time. and occasional half banana mashed or nibbled to mush don't do baby food its made for babies not for adults to much sugar of fat hopefully you have one of those tea/coffee warmers and small pyrex bowls to keep your soup warm (don't think I ever turned mine off the first month) Pepermint tea is good hot, warm and cold seddles the tummy and decreases tummy acid.
