So close and yet so far
I am curious if this situation has happened to anyone else. I am scheduled for surgery on 6/7/06 with Dr. Vanguri. All the paperwork is due to the hospital by this Thursday. Well, my lab reports show that I have a UTI and that my blood sugar is high. The coordinator said this will make the surgery a no go. I have until June 1st to get everything back in order or I won't be having surgery until next summer (as I can only do surgery in summer since I am a teacher). Anyway, I am scared silly. I have been waiting and waiting and I am so close, but evidently still so far away. Has this happened to you or anyone you know? How did you handle it? Thanks for listening to me.
Oh yes...I developed a UTI about 2 weeks to 10 days before surgery last summer. I, like you, was afraid they would cancel my surgery. They put me on antibiotics right away and my surgery went off as scheduled. I'm not sure why high blood sugar would keep you from having surgery since many of us who are morbidly obese have diabetes as a co-morbidity. I too had high blood sugar (despite being on medication). Again, my surgery went off as scheduled.
Call your PCP and your surgeon's office and get it worked out. Specifically ask them what to do so that your surgery can go on as planned.
Take heart, it'll work out
