Hello, all I am new to this message board, after of years of crying and debating with my self I have decided to have the lap band surgery. I am really obese and my weight just keeps on climbing. I have BC/BS but I work for a small group so therefore it is not covered. So after much research I have decided to go to Mexico to have the surgery, wanted to know if any one here in Maryland has gone to Mexico to have surgery and if so could they share there experciene with me. I would truly appreciate it. Thanks

Hello. I am unsure as to why you are going to Mexico to have the surgery? Is it because of your insurance? There is a great practice in Salisbury, Maryland. They do the band as well as RNY, they will work with your insurance to get approval. I understand the small group issue, but it concerns me that you would have to travel to Mexico and then what if you have complications or need to get an adjustment if you get the banding. There are so many issues that could come up and the distance to travel for follow care is an issue that would be at the top of my list. Good luck! Michelle :)

Hi...I'd like to suggest you post also to the South of the Border forum here at obesityhelp - it's a fairly active and friendly board and I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses to your questions. You can find it by the forums tab up top and then choose South of the Border from the Weight Loss Related Forums list. Best of luck in your endeavors! ~Tooter OH Staff

I also live in Columbia. I had my lap RNY on March 15. I know how hard of a decision it is to take this drastic step. Like the rest of us here at OH. What a great site! Welcome. If you have any questions or just want to talk, please feel free to email me at [email protected] . I can send you my phone number from that email. I am military so I have tricare insurance. I can't help much with the insurance things. But other than that I'd love to get to know you and help you any way that I can. Talk with you soon, Hugs, Robin

Hi I'd have to agree with Michele. Mexico is a long way. Your gonna need a good aftercare program. The surgery is one thing. But you will need followup with a nutritionist and a Dr. familiar with your procedure. Just my 2 cents Nadine O.

Have you considered taking out a loan and paying cash for a doctor here? The avg. cost for lapband is not that much greater then the travel, hotel, and surgery cost going to Mexico. You'll also get AMAZING follow-up care. Good Luck, Megan
