GBMC Program

Hi all! Well I am headed to my first appt @ Gbmc on Monday. I was wondering something. DO they give you a tentative surgery date at your first consult? I have already been to the info sessions and support groups. Thanks again for everything!

Hey Rachel - Happy Friday! My first consult was on 3/23/05, and I did receive my surgery date of 8/2, which I actually requested because I would be returning from OC the week prior. I'm not sure if getting the surgery date was predicated on insurance approval, partly because, like I said before, I literally had no knowledge if there was an insurance battle. I'm assuming there wasn't because all I ever paid was a copay. Their practice has grown, no pun intended, and they've added another doc, so I'm not sure what their schedules are like now. Hi Rachel, I am currently going through the program at GBMC. I have Aetna insurance so I am still qualifying through their program. I am scheduled for my last visit with the nutritionist soon and after that visit I will get my paperwork submitted for approval. After approval is when they schedule your surgery date. From start to this point has been five months, by the time my surgery is scheduled, the whole process from beginning to surgery will have taken me about seven months. Everyone will be different according to their own health insurance coverage. Good luck to you!
