I had RNY on November 13, 2013 and have noticed in the last week that my hair loss has increased. Part of it might be because I ran out of protein shakes and with this stupid weather I never get to Costco. I'm hoping I don't lose too much but I do remember this happening when I was taking infertility drugs. Once I quit taking them and my hormones settled down, the hair loss stopped.
My surgery was in February. My hair started falling out in May for about four months. I have lots of new hair growth now but I probably lost half at least. And I had lots of hair, thank god.
The appt is for the gastro specialist .the bariatric team has referred me to them because they cant help me with the current problems i am having.
I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't know MB had a WLS Specialist! That is cool!
Don't get all bent out of shape over one appointment! The glass is 1/2 full.. Fingers crossed it fits into your schedule just fine.
I'm not from Winnipeg so not sure about Dr's but I think if you want a referral, your Dr should give it to you regardless of what his/her personal thoughts are on the issue. Maybe check the RHA site and see what Dr;s are accepting new patients? Good luck
Hi all. I'm wondering if there's a doctor here in Winnipeg that I could see that won't be judgemental about obesity, and take me seriously when I say that I want to do something about it? And may possibly refer me for surgery? I haven't decided if I want to go that route yet. My obesity is causing me a lot of health problems, and my current doctor hasn't really done much for me, other than prescribing Wellbutrin for depression and binge eating.
So after waiting 8 mts to see specialist to figure out whats going on. I get phone call this morning saying that my appt for friday had been cancelled but they are rescheduling it for next week......grrrrr i have many other appts scheduled after that one now i might have to reschedule all of those appts too.feeling defeated right now

The process is called telogen effluvium and no, there is nothing you can do to stop it. Fortunately, it is relatively short term and self-limiting for most of us. As the body is adjusting to major changes, hairs fall out at the roots and are replaced by new growth. On the plus side, good nutrition will support the remaining hair and encourage healthy new growth.
