Hi Cara,
i waited a year to get to the information seminar.. i called all the time, seeing if they had cancellations ect. and finally they squeezed me in.. this is at the Victoria Hospital. after the seminar, which is lengthy but informative.. they explain alot.. they said its usually 6 months or more from your first appointment.. so more like 7-9 months until ur finished.
i had my seminar in October of 2013, then my first appointment in December 2013, and i just had my 3 month in March 2014. they dont need me to come back to the center (because i live so far away) (and ive followed the rules, did the excersise and lost a bit of weight and have changed my eating habbits and completed the the craving change) so in 6 weeks i have a call from them and then they will put my name through! so i might get in sooner!
so dont let the long wait list get you down, i was there! and FINALLY, there is a light at the end of the tunnel!
You will get there too!

Hi,
im just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as i am with this whole journey! i have already attended my seminar, and had my three month appointment, and now i have to wait 6 more weeks until i have my last meeting witht he dietician and nurse and the work-out-gal (LOL). after that, my name will be put through to the surgeon. i already have my pre-op paperwork and a physical with my doctor booked for the end of april... so.. now that you have the back story, my main question is..
after they put ur name through to the surgeon, TYPICALLY, in Winnipeg, through the VICTORIA hospital, how long is the wait?
im just worried they will schedule it over my best friends wedding, and im the maid of honor.. i cant miss that.. and i would kind of like not to be in pain for the wedding.. (which is in August)
please comment if you have any insight on this situation :)

I had my surgery last May 2013 and I was 51 years old. Was anxious as I hadn't had surgery since I was a kid. Everything went well and no complications to date! Have lots of energy and am 94 pounds down. You will do fine!
I had surgery in November and I am 51. I recovered quickly with minimal pain. I was tired and still am on the odd day but for the most part I feel wonderful and wish Ihad been able to do this when I was in my 30's
Okay, I will go then and get some information. Since I have already had my first appointment I am presuming I will not have any forms to fill out but I do want more information to know if this is for me. Needless to say I am scared. I have not had any surgery since I was a child and I am now 54. Been lucky I guess, but right now I have my hand on a piece of wood. LOL
When I went last year for my information session, many people had a spouse/support person with them, so it probably wouldn't be a problem for you to tag along. But you won't get the forms etc unless it is your information session and you were asked to attend by the clinic.
Do you have to be invited for an information seminar? I just saw a bariatric doctor for the first time this week and was approved for the very first assessment, ofcourse still have lot of work to go through. But my boyfriend was invited to an orientation this coming week at Victoria General. I am wondering if I can go, guess all I have to do is call and Ask. Would like to go even if I miss my usual volunteer day.
Hi Linda, my name is Cara...I am now going into my 1st year of waiting for any orientation...could you please tell me how long you waited to hear about your orientation...I am so anxious!
I had rny on Nov. 5, 2012. I don't post on here much at all and unfortunatly I have not made it to any meet and greets. I have had several complications since my surgery including dilations, several scopes, ulcers and most recently another surgery from an internal hernia and bowel obstruction. The bariatric drs have dealt with my problems quickly. They have kept my gp informed but when I think my problem could be due to my wls I call the bariatric drs. When I was in pain I went to St. B emergency because they ard on call there. I had an mri and the internal hernia was found. I was in hospital for 10 days. My purpose of posting this information is to remind everyone that the bariatric drs are the experts on what might be happening due to our wls so they should be the go-to drs. I have read a few posts on here by people stating that their drs can't figure out what is wrong with them. Make sure you are seeing the right dr for your problems. General drs have not dealt with problems due to wls and therefore might not find out the cause quickly. Take care everyone!
