Hi Karen and Cara...
Are you kidding me??!! 2-3 yr wait from an Acceptance letter? Holy Moly....is it Canada's Medical system? Are there other insurance programs in Canada? That is hard to believe.
Does Canada have other ins programs available to you...I would be hesitant myself. What about an Emergency??
Can you call the doctor's office to speak to someone to ask for a surgical date?
Good Luck,
alese inFL
Donna, I'm two years out and some protein shakes still bother my stomach. Try putting protein powder into other things. I put flavoured protein powder in plain Greek yogurt with some fruit. You can also get Beneprotein or plain protein powder that you can put into other foods. (I never did that much because I can always taste it.)
Do you have a health care plan through your work? You can see a dietician through most health care plans. (You usually have to pay up-front, I think.) You could call a few dieticians and find out if they have experience with patients who have had weight loss surgery. Your doctor may also be able to refer you to a hospital dietician. You may not qualify for anything specifically associated with the Winnipeg Bariatric Program, but there are lots of other resources that are available for anyone in Manitoba that you could take advantage of.
Do you belong to the Facebook weight loss groups? If you send me your e-mail address (privately if you like) I can send you an invitation to join. It has to be approved by a group administrator. That group seems to be more active than this forum right now.

I had my surgery in medicine hat alberta so I have no after care here I got help with my ulcers but the specialist said i dont qualify for any programs in manitoba which sucks. Im also having problems with the protien I hate the drinks but I do try to have one a day and my stomach will not let me eat meat I get very sick even the smell really bothers me which I always loved meat so i dont really know what to do about that. 7ts been a tough road even though im hsppy I did it with no after care here I dont have anyone to ask questions to. The dr here that took care of my ulcers said if I have snymore complications I can go back to him other thsn that I just see a family dr but he doesnt know much about gastric bypass I had surgery 6.5 mths ago and have lost 90lbs I dont kn8w if thats good or slow I do know its slowing down now but the first 6mths I couldnt really eat anything without throwing up so maybe im plateauing now because I can keep food down. Thanks for responding to my post I feel alone sometimes in this adventure
Did you have surgery in Winnipeg Donna? I would talk to Amy and the dietician and make sure you are doing what you need to. I find at not quite 5 months out I lost steady for a few days and then I stay where I am for a week or so. Seems to be my pattern for the last couple of months.
I am having problems getting my strength back also I hsd bad ulcers after surgery 6mth ago and I hit plateaus that last 2 weeks ar a time so frustrating but I was almost unable to hold anything down for5 mths but now I can eat im wondering if thats why im plateauing so much I really watch what I eat I do walking and light weights but thats all the dr said ibshould be doing for now im just frustrated the weight is coming off so slow now......Donna

hi, i meant that after your info was sent to the surgeon, how long did it take? like, would they have scheduled it sooner? or was it like 2-3 months time?
I am 4 weeks post-op and can tell you that while I was going through my pre-op stages I was also finishing up a Masters Degree and couldn't start the boost until my exam was over. I let everyone know that and was able to schedule my surgery after that. This is elective surgery, therefore you have the choice as to when you are ready and available.
I hope this helps?
