Topic: RE: For the Veteran VSG'ers

I'm just over a year out ( beginning of april, 2012) and I notice my ability to eat more started around 6-8 months out . Totally makes sense to make the most of the honeymoon period . I think I lost like 80 lbs in that first 6 months and then the last 20 in the next 6 .... crazy. I can really pack in the slider foods if I let myself.

I also find waiters don't ask me if something is wrong with my food as often... totally a sign that I eat more... I still have to pack up like 1/2 my meal but it does look like I've ate a good amount.

It's weird too ... I find my restriction changes day to day and time of day. Usually I can eat way more in the evening or at supper than at lunch . But sometimes it is totally the opposite and i can eat more earlier and later I have more restriction. Keeps me on my toes

I felt really good with shakes and yogurt, puddings with protein powder... You may not feel as much  restriction until you add non liquidy things.... measure and take it easy with stuff like cottage cheese, and yogurt , puddings etc. go slow and listen to your body. If you do well on those things then add soft or pureed foods. Chew chew chew.

I remember fantasizing about real food. For me it was chicken breast in a crock pot with mushroom soup and eggs.

a scrambled egg was my first non liquidy food and I was super constipated and impacted that day ( 2 weeks after my surgery according to my plan) and went to a movie with my step daughter ( had the egg in the morning) and drank some of her iced tea. and was soooo sick. I think it was the combination of the sweet liquid and iced tea but I spent the next 4 hours puking violently. I still can't handle sweet liquids ( not a bad thing really - shouldn't be having them) and got so weird about eggs for months and months ( weird association)

Follow the plan , add food slowly and chew once you have something to chew.

If you have questions dont hesitate to also call the clinic  thats what they are there for  they only want to help us .Make sure you get fluids and as much protien in as you can tolerate ,  dont force things . I had the 2 weeks of Boost and last Monday I had my surgery and for the past week have been drinking fluids only along with Boost for my protein supplement. I am able to do this fine but now am experiencing some anxiety thinking of starting some thicker fluids down that new tract. I haven't had any nausea but wondering if anyone else has experienced this "first food" thing anxiousness????

Long time no hear Shan. Awesome to get an update. My problem is head hunger and northern living. Gotta get back south to get my groove on. We have to get together soon. Say, wanna meet after the plastics session at the Vic?

I still have great restriction, 3oz of chicken or beef is hard to finish.
1 yogurt and a very small piece of fruit, that's it
1 egg with cheese , full
1cup salad , almost to much
I can eat everything except ham and bread, they don't agree with me.
Popcorn, I get a small one at the movies, I can fini**** by the end of the movie.
I have to eat the 5 small meals a day, and make good choices, which I have not been doing lately.
My weight loss has been slow, and if I don't exercise I to am in trouble
I am almost 2 yrs out and still want to lose 40 more pounds, and I know it will not be easy.
