I have the weekend of the 20-21st off. I would love to go to a m&g. Every time one is scheduled, I either have to work the next day, I get up at 4:50am so evenings do not work for me, or it is a weekend afternoon when, once again, I'm working. I would love to see all of you!

Topic: Questions to ask at last follow up prior to my bariatric sugery

OK here's the deal... I'm off to Edmonton for what I assume will be my last in person follow up prior to having my surgery. I'm assuming things are going well...I've reduced my weight by 65 lbs since last August  when I was first accepted into the Alberta Bariatric Surgery program (more than that from my peak weight). I've been attending all of the workshops available, increasing my activity level, staying true to my calorie goal and improving my nutrition (90+% of the time), getting more sleep, finding local support, had my gastroscopy, blood work, etc done... and they like me in Edmonton.

So I expect to be given my surgery date this trip.

I will be attending Alberta Health's Preparing For Bariatric Surgery class  and meeting with my dietician, nurse case manager and possibly with the Internalist and surgeon (not sure of the surgeon as I already met him last time and he was satisfied with my progress).

Are there any suggestions as to specific questions or concerns I should ask about?

Thanks, Mike

Any update on possible M&G in July? I'm away for a follow up in Edmonton at the beginning of July and am volunteering during the Fringe Festival after the 17th. But I can adjust my volunteer schedule to make a meet.

Thanks, Mike

NGD, if you and your daughter are still there on the 11th, please let me know. I am coming in for the craving change program at 5:30 and could meet you for coffee before the session. It would be nice to meet you in person.

I have been doing well losing weight until the last couple of months, and now I am stuck with this 5% weight loss hanging over me. I was hoping they would be happy with the 30+lbs I already lost but sadly no. So any advice I can get I will take.

Went and bought a couple of boosts as they are on sale this week at Walmart and with Brian's discount and coupons I am paying less that $5.50 for 6. I know I will be needing them in the near future so I will store until then.

Hope everyone's surgery goes well!

Greek yogurt is my best friend! Absolutely love it but I water it down to make it less thick. I also use milk to "water" it down.

Hi there my name is Dena.   I am in my 5th day of post op...  The pre op didn't bother me but now I guess I am just sick of liquids.  I would really like different ideas on how to get my protein.   Are there any suggestions out there that you would like to share.

thanks all

Dena

I say the pre-op was worse than anything post op. I didn't really have a lot of pain. In the hospital I took the pain mess they offered but once home I just took Extra Strength Tylenol for about 3 days and then I took nothing. I didn't fill the prescription for T3's as I knew I wouldn't need them very little pain. I had surgery 40 years ago as a kid and I have a foot long incision but this surgery is not painful at all. I was up the afternoon of my surgery and walking the halls. Went home the next morning.

On e home I too started with just liquids and worried about getting liquids down first. I still struggle to get 7 glasses of water down a day. Coffe bothers my to match but tea is okay right now so I drink that. I am able to get my 60-80 grams of protein down me away with Greek yogurts and foods but no protein powder. I don't really like the taste of it.

I have been walking outside since 4 weeks post op and yesterday began riding my bike for exercise. I feel this combination will be good cardio. I do the strength exercises that Amy gave me about 3 times a week. S far and God willing and Me working things will work to my benefit.

Talk to you later. Out to ride the lawn mower.
