I agree you need a new doctor. If he/she new anything about obesity then they would know that no amount of dieting and moderation is going to help when you have dieted for years. I have to say my Dr is very supportive and everytime he sees me asks me how the process is going. He told me that the info I give him will help him direct more of his patients for the program.

I am not from Winnipeg, but isn't there a link through your Health Authority to find Dr's accepting patients?

I wish you every bit of luck in finding a new and supportive Dr. Hopefully you will not need to go out of the country and if you do a new Dr will support you and take the time to make sure your health needs are met.

I'm sorry, I don't know of any doctors accepting new patients, but I didn't want to view and not comment like I don't care. You definitely need a new doctor, I agree. I have a doctor that has not been particularly helpful either. It makes things feel very hopeless. Don't give up, there is an answer out there. I am personally considering going to Mexico to have it done. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Hi, I'm Jennifer.  I was sleeved on February 27 by Dr. Hardy.  I am down 96 lbs. from my highest weight (20 lbs. on my own before surgery). This was the best thing I ever did for myself!

Topic: My Doctor refused to refer me for surgery

I have been seeing the same doctor since I was 12 and I have been discussing with her my weight since my late teens and she has watched me struggle my whole life with it and has always encouraged moderation and exercise and natural path but none of these and many others have never worked and have just yoyoed as I call it because I lose and always gain back extra. I am tired of struggling and feeling depressed about myself and hating my body and I am and have been for awhile ready for change and taking my life and health and weight in my own hands. Well she flat out denied to refer me for weight loss surgery and again spoke of the same thing she always does and never listens to me. I am tired of feeling powerless and voiceless with her and I am in need of a new doctor, one that is open minded and willing to listen to me and to my needs and not make judgements. Please help if you can and know of any doctors taking new patients. I am ready to leave the country to seek surgery!

I was very discouraged by her and I am looking for a new doctor, so any suggestions on here for a doctor would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your words of encouragement and support they really mean a lot!

They all asked about what changes I had made since the orientation and we discussed them and then all 4 of them gave me goals to accomplish. So questions like how much exercise, do you smoke/drink pop, stressors in your life. The dietician goes through your food logs and makes suggestions. They give you your Craving Changes dates, your goals and a date for your next appointment. It was not that uncomfortable and I am pretty shy around strangers.
