Don't give up! Keep looking until you find a new doctor. The decision to have weight loss surgery is yours, NOT hers! Hard to believe there are doctors out there that would be against it. Maybe they should educate themselves more about it and see the lifelong benefits that having surgery can bring. Good luck!

I have to jump in too! I'm Elizabeth and my Surgery was November, 2012. Over 100 lbs down and feeling great. Best thing I ever did. I'm working in Brandon this week and haven't seen the folks here since early May and LOVE the reaction I'm getting from everyone! Feels really good. Even got called 'skinny minny' the other day. I have 30 pounds to go to my first goal! Yay!
Good for you Mike. It's not easy to lose weight without surgery and even though you've done some, it's good to see you are still moving forward. I too had to lose weight to qualify in MB but since I'm female, that was my only limitation. Now that I had surgery the weight loss is better, my energy is up and I enjoy exercising and don't mind passing on the desserts. Before surgery I wouldn't have passed on ice cream - EVER! Now I don't touch the stuff. I think that having the surgery is such an investment in yourself that you pay more attention to what you are doing. Sorry I didn't check this post before your Edmonton appointment but I don't think I could have given you any questions to ask anyway!
I'd even go to a walk in clinic if you had to so you could get that referal... But yes, find a new doctor...
