I just heard that Manitoba will cover the cost of the lapband surgery. I live in Ontario and am very interested in finding out if I can go to Manitoba to have the procedure done. It is costing me $16,000 to have it done in Ontario. Also, if I do quality, I would need a doctor in the Windsor, Sarnia, London area to do the fills. Any help on this? Thanks

I am not sure if the lap-band is covered in Manitoba, it was not when i started my quest for surgury. I do know that as of right now there are no doctors in Manatoba who perform Bariatric sugury. I am being flown out of province to Alberta for mine. Hope this information helps a bit. Christina

I spoke to a lady at Manitoba Health and she said they don't cover the cost for the actual Lap-band devise or the fills.  They will cover the actual surgery, I did ask how much is the cost, she couldn,t answer.  Maples Surgical Centre now does the lap-band, but it's a private clinic and if you have the money to get it down, go for it between $10 to $20 thousand dollars.

Here is an email I received this morning from MB Health. Thought it was very informative and straight from the horse's mouth so to speak. Enjoy.

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the adjustable lap banding procedure.
