Pre-Op Diet
I have been scheduled to have my surgery on March 10th! I am super excited, and looking forward to what life has in store for me once I'm through all of this (pre-op, surgery, recovery). I have an enormous amount of support both from my family and work. I have been cleared for the time off, I have tons of help at home (Mom and Dad are moving in to help) and yet, I have this huge amount of anxiety about the Pre-op diet.
I will need to be on it for 3 weeks, and for some reason nothing else makes me nervous. I think it's because of this feeling of the unknown; Not knowing how this will effect me. I am in an executive position, and I need to think quickly about very important things...
Can anyone lend me some advice on the pre-op diet, is it really hard? Did anyone have to take any time off because they weren't feeling well? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
Thanks
Are you having surgery in Winnipeg? Congratulations!
I was on boost for 2 weeks pre op and although it wasn't the greatest tasting by the end of the 2 weeks it was doable. Try to focus on why you are doing this and how great you will feel when this is all done. I just kept telling myself I could have broth after the surgery..
I didn't have to take time off but I cut myself some slack on the things in my life I can control. I left meal prep for my husband if he was home as it really bothered me to have to cook for the family. I was very tired and went to bed early. I didn't worry about getting to the gym as I was dizzy and tired and I struggled with very low blood sugars with the pre op diet and quit taking my diabetes meds and that helped. I still worked my day at a middle school and looked after my special needs child *****quires 24 hour care.
Not going to lie, I had some tears watching people eat and dealing with the head hunger and spent one morning crying in my office I was so overwhelmed by my feelings, luckily I had the school guidance counselor to talk to. Just look it as a way of cleansing your system and getting ready for your new tummy and lifestyle.

Congrats on your surgery date! I too was most apprehensive about the pre-op nutrition but looked at it as the beginning steps before surgery. I was on Boost for 2 weeks prior. I am a teacher and did not miss any work prior to my surgery date. I will say I was more tired during this time but you have to admit it is a huge adjustment to what we did prior to this. I did not splurge on the few days before my surgery. I just ate normal. After the initial days (3 days) I was good. I didn't have any headaches or nausea, just some tiredness. I agree with Karen! it is just a phase but so much good to come from it. I look at those 2 weeks and I was able to cook food for my husband still and we even went out for dinner and I took my Boost along. Was I crazy or what???
Now 9 months this Thursday and 85 pounds down, it is the best decision I ever made. Happy I "suffered" for 2 short weeks because the outcome is sooooooooo worth it! Stay positive and focused on the long term, not the 2 weeks of inconvenience now.
HI
I was on BOOST for 2 weeks. In all honesty, it was not that bad. Of course I missed food but I kept telling myself focus on the big picutre in the long run a two week sacrifice is nothing. I worked up to the day of surgery and was just fine.
I prepared my family's meals and I drank my Boost at meal times while my family ate. I found it easier to pour the BOOST over ice and sip it.
best of luck to you.
