Non-judgemental doctor?

Hi all. I'm wondering if there's a doctor here in Winnipeg that I could see that won't be judgemental about obesity, and take me seriously when I say that I want to do something about it? And may possibly refer me for surgery? I haven't decided if I want to go that route yet. My obesity is causing me a lot of health problems, and my current doctor hasn't really done much for me, other than prescribing Wellbutrin for depression and binge eating.

I'm not from Winnipeg so not sure about Dr's but I think if you want a referral, your Dr should give it to you regardless of what his/her personal thoughts are on the issue. Maybe check the RHA site and see what Dr;s are accepting new patients? Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I know I can call the WRHA doctor hotline, but I was hoping someone might suggest their doctor. I know my current one "doesn't believe in surgery." She threw pills at me and that was it. She's not great at following up either.

Sorry to hear your Dr. is not on board with the importance of this tool in combatting obesity.  I know Chris Andrew has held info sessions to educate the medical community in Manitoba.  My GP was a non- believer and changed her philosophy once she attended one of his sessions.  Unfortunately she is not accepting new patients, have you tried your local ACCESS centre?

 

 

I have no clue where that would be. Even then, wouldn't that pretty much be the same thing as calling the doctor hotline and asking who's taking patients in my area?

 

This is frustrating.

I guess it could be having said that I know the access centre on henderson offers a variety of services....doctors...dieticians....counsellors....etc.
