New Member- So many questions

This might seem a bit redundant but I am just going to ask for some feedback about what's happening right now in Manitoba for wait times.  My GP referred me to the Bariatric Program in late August and I received my letter of acceptance 2 weeks later.  My GP told me I was a great fit for the criteria the program had.  Does anyone know if when you are approved and go on the weight list if the time there is the same for everyone or does the program prioritize candidates based on how they meet criteria.  I tried to call Victoria hospital and all I was told is you could wait up to 2 years...is that really as much info as they can share.  Nothing about how long the wait list is, how many surgeries they do a week or a month, and no way to check where you fall on the list.  Help????

My understanding from my experience is everyone goes through the same process and even if you meet all the criteria the team will still expect to see changes. I had lost over 40 lbs by the time I saw the team and I still had to lose the expectd 5% weight loss.

I have tried to pin the surgeon's office down to an approximate date of surgery as I do craft shows for the Christmas season and all I got was my surgery will be Nov/Dec. But other people have been given surgery dates when they have called and asked before they have seen the surgeon.

There seems to be no consistency in the surgeon's office..people don't get appointments because they don't have addresses which I don't understand since we fill out pages of paperwork. My consult notice went to an address that I haven't lived at in 10 years, my cousin just didn't get a letter. My cousin got a phone call saying her appointment had been moved to St. B, I never received one but mine had been moved there as well.

It's all very frustrating but I can say that it hasn't changed since I've been involved in the program almost 4 years ago. Keep phoning and asking it's all you can do and good luck!

Thanks Karen for the info I have been reading through other posts on here and there is so much valuable information.  Has anyone on this forum received their letter of acceptance into the program in 2013  and already gone to the orientation /information session?

Just wondering who told you that your surgery will be around January?

I was talking with other girls who have had their surgeries. Most of them had a date about 8 to 10 weeks after their appt. with the surgeon. Not all were 8 to 10 weeks, Some where longer and some where shorter.....I am rough guessing a surgery time based on others I have talked too. Hope I'm right!  And if I'm not....well, that's ok too....sooner or later , my day will come!
