advocacy
hello all,
i have been looking at advocacy for bariatric patients, but no one really offers training for this.
as many if you know i have been actively searching for a program that i can take that will be reconized by manitoba health.
if anyone knows of any programs please PM me.
i think that if more patients bring it up it might convince the drs to hire someone for this postion.

I asked my nurse case manager in Edmonton about this and she replied that they don't have anything like this. My gut feeling is that advocates might not necessarily be welcome as advocacy seems to happen when someone is not happy with a situation or a decision by the 'system'...
...I know that to be included in the Craving Change workshops at the Victoria Hospital, I had to 'buck' the system by advocating for myself and making a case with MBHealth. I got in but it was made very clear to me by the Vic that this was a one time thing.
I would suggest contacting an existing advocacy group in the medical or health care field here in the province to see if they could suggest direction. Or Chaplain Services or Patient/Social Work Services at a hospital for some guidance.
Thank you for the compliment, I do what I can.
Sondra has been doing much more - I'm just a newcomer.
Hey Sondra, are you attending the national conference in California?? If not, you should plan on going to the next one. They must have training programs or advice on what to do.
