I'm Michelle . I had VSG in Mexico April 4, 2012. Went through the program here and got sick of waiting . I started at at 42 bmi and now am at 28 . 295 to 195 - 100 lbs lost . Still working on my last 20 lbs but am pretty happy where I am. Starting to think about plastics ( got a quote from Mexico no money though!)
I had VSG in Mexico (details in my signature below) Feb 6/12 and full abdominoplasty Aug 10/13. At that point my weight had been quite stable for about 8 months.
I chose to go to Mexico for VSG as soon as I found out how long the waiting list was in Manitoba. At that point it was still a pilot program here. My experience there was excellent.
My BMI still puts me in the "obese" category (30.5), but since I started at a BMI of 49.4, I'm pretty darned happy with where I'm at.
I no longer have hypertension and my sleep apnea has been officially cured.
I don't post often, but read everything everyone else posts!

Hello, I am Barb. I had my surgery in Tijauana, Mexico in June 2012. I had the Duodenal Switch procedure and am still loosing. To date I have lost 135 lbs. I am still loosing between 6 and 8 pounds per month( except for a few stalls).
Hi I am Lorna and I had my VSG done in Mexico - did not meet the criteria here. I started off at 353 lbs and lost 57 lbs pre surgery and have lost a total of 192 lbs. My BMI is now 27 so I am still considered overweight. I have a quote for plastics in Mexico and am considering going this coming year. I will first check out what can be done here and then I will start lobbying the Premier of Manitoba to help us WL people get plastics covered under medicare. I will have a long road but I am up for the fight.

I'm Trish 43yrs, just been accepted to the program here in Wpg. Scared and nervous of what is to come. My Dad says that's good, now you have to diet and exercise.. my sister says to me, oh yeah but you know it's always the last 20lbs to go.. my husband says that's good. My BFF says that's Awesome, i'm so excited for you a second chance..
I suffer with depression, sleep apnea, bad knees and back. I also I don't post often, but I do read everything everyone else posts. I lately have been suffering with short term memory.. not sure why. so if I ask the same things over and over, please bare with me. Well it's that time of day.. work :( lol
I'm Mike and am in pre op in the Alberta bariatric program after not meeting the eligibility criteria for the Manitoba program when referred by my GP in May 2011.
I was then referred to the Alberta program, was accepted, and had my initial appointment at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton in August 2012. I was approved for surgery and signed my consent form in March 2013. I have completed my follow ups and endoscopy, taken the pre bariatric surgery class, and am on the wait list for a surgery date. I have elected to have a VSG and am hoping that my surgery could possibly take place in early December or January. I am scheduled to have hip replacement surgery at Concordia Hip and Knee Centre in April 2014.

Hi I'm new to the bariatric program here, having only been accepted about a week ago. I'm at the top end of the criteria for age and BMI so am very happy to be on the list. Have started at Mike's suggestion tracking my food on MyfitnessPal. Interesting to discover that I am falling short on my caloric intake......need to increase protein and cut my salt. Now to get a start on recording regular exercise. Hopefully by the time I have my meetings with the professionals I will be a better place to make positive changes. I'm assuming I'm having the RNY I didn't realize till reading posts on here that the sleeve was an option. Who decides?
