My RNY - Progress

Let's see.
Because of the weight loss plan I was placed on (less input, more output, more thought) I've lost 34 lbs since March.
Its been 3 days since my surgery (Monday, Aug 12th at 7:30 am). I was out of the hospital after a single night's stay for observation, I was off pain meds the next night. I POOPED YESTERDAY (proof positive things are working), and I've gone for several lengthy walks outdoors. I'd say my progress is quite remarkable. I'll get up to my required 10,000 steps per day very soon.
I'm feeling stiff around the belly, like there's a tight belt around my centre. The laparoscopic entry points hurt like mosquito bites, but that's it. When i get full from, say, consuming 125-250 ml of broth in 30 minutes I feel a bit tense inside. It subsides but I remain full for quite a while. I haven't experienced dumping syndrome.
I think the 2 weeks of liquid-only prior to the surgery was the most valuable preparation. Sometime between Saturday and Monday I will make the transition from liquids to puree. That will be a big test. My quantity will not change. I see myself living my life eating 250 ml of high protein food an hour for the rest of my days.
So, all in all I am feeling rather fine.
congrats on the surgery going well.please take it easy. i know that you are eager to begin with the exercise and new life but let your body heal.you would be amazed at how quickly you can get tired with he lack of intake of food.Your capacity for food will increase as you progress further from surgery. We can not live on that small of meals.they will tell you to increase your consumption as you are further out.they would like to see us eat about 1200-1400 calories a day.mostly protien but you must include some fruits and veggies too or you will become difficiant in vitamins and nutrients and that will cause you problems down the road.
sondra
I think sondra is looking at the big picture. She's " been there , done that" and can see lots of mistakes that newbies often make. Trying to move too fast is a big one. Your body has been through a lot at this point. It's a marathon , not a sprint.
Dont try to do too much. Keep I mind your limitations . You are recovering from a big surgery . Give it some time .
Did the nut give you the ok to move to soft foods ( phase 3 , I believe)
try to remember your new pouch doesn't have the same nerves as eating solid foods , or too much at this point can be dangerous.
Hi, Mike;
I had my surgery on Wednesday am and pretty much to same state as you (pain, BM, liquid consumption, etc.). I'm wondering how you're doing with the protein intake and vitamins? I'm having trouble with protein powder and am drinking Boost, believe it or not, instead of broth with protein powder. I also find I have quite the aftertaste from all the vitamins. Are you finding that as well? The Boost does help with that as well. I'm feeling much better today and am going to just stick to Boost until phase 2 foods. I'm hoping with phase 2 foods will have strong eno ough flavours to mask the protein powder taste.
You're doing great with your recovering and thanks for sharing. Its great to hear from someone who's going through it around the same time as me.

I ditched the Boost 24 hours before the surgery. I couldnt stand the stuff. I am not a milk drinker so I found it very hard to take, and it was not doing good things to my stomach.
Nestle BeneProtein powder works very well with broth, juice, even coffee! It doesn't have as much protein as the other Nutrition store brands, but it dissolves so well that its my primary.
For my morning juice blend I am combining my liquid vitamins with 1 scoop Whey Superior - Protein Plus Powder, Renew Life - Fiber-Tastic!, Organic no-sugar added Apple Cider, no sugar added Prune Nectar, and ice. I am getting 26g of protein in a 250 ml glass that is rather tasty. Natural sugars are not effecting me whatsoever.
I experimented yesterday with a single scrambled egg with great success. It was amazing, so I am slowly adding pureed high-protein veggies - eating a small amount every hour or two until I reach my protein level.
I also walked 5km yesterday. I burned nearly 600 calories but realized I had only taken in 300. Its pretty important for me to balance that out.
