DS or Bypass selfpay?

Hello everyone; On reading the criteria for mb that Newfie posted I find myself on the outer edges of meeting them.....my age being one of thing since I'm 55 now. Does anyone have any info on getting this surgery done privately in Canada? In the US? In Mexico? How do you find out if you've been accepted on the list/waitlist here? I would be interested in hearing about anyone's experience on having surgery done outside Manitoba. Thanks!
Hey there. I didn't meet MB program requirements either and I wasn't willing to wait another year to find out if they would take me, so I did the selfpay route and went to Mexico and was sleeved. I had my surgery done in June and I am doing great! It was the best decision that I could have made for myself.
If you have any questions about Mexico PM me and I will answer them
I went to mexico and had a great experience. As long as you don't go to certain clinics/drs ( think almanza/pompa and strip mall " hospitals" ) it can be awesome.
I went to Dr Ponce de Leon. As did a bunch of people from this forum . My sister came with me and ended up getting hers done 2 months later. She would have never considered it before seeing my experience. My sister in law went down a couple of weeks ago. I took pictures of the hospital they use and my experience... you can check them out at www.photobucket.com/wlstijuana.
Trish ( wls4betterlife) is awesome to deal with. She still keeps in touch with me.
Feel free to pm me if you have any questions ....
I also know that its-killen-me has had the ds in mexico. She went with Dr ponce and had a good experience with him - she booked with another co ordinator and had issues with the co ordinator but not dr ponce. .... ( I like dr ponce and would go to him but otherwise I only consider Dr ungson and Dr aceves for ds if you are looking for other options. Dr U and Dr A are the only " vetted " surgeons in mexico for DS .... )
The lap band is the least successful and hardest to lose with. It has a foreign body inside you , and there are way more complications. Scaring, erosion slippage. Not to mention getting fills all the time.
The criteria is here...http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/MB/4612985/program-guidelines-for-manitoba-weight-loss-surgery/

And getting the lap band here is $18,000 plus so cost prohibitive for most of us. I'm throwing a question out to all of you who have been accepted into the MB program....... How long did you wait from the time your doc sent in the referral to the time you heard one way or the other?
