help getting through pre-op diet
You must have the same surgery date as my daughter, July 9th. She is scheduled for the 11:00 am slot. I feel so bad for her because I know what it is like - the hunger, frustration, headaches, weakness, short temper and when it is your child you always want to take the "pain" for them. Hang in there, this is the hungriest you are going to be and the most you will ever weigh again (hopefully- I'm still leery this might not be a forever thing so I am cautious with my words so I don't jinx myself lol) I had VSG in October and am down 101 lbs and 113 from my heaviest. Milk the first 6 months, they call this the honeymoon period and generally thing slow down after that. Right now I am having trouble with head hunger and am still mourning my comfort foods, it's too bad the surgery doeesn't fix our brains - sigh.
Hang in there Dukeysmom, maybe we will meet in the hospital on the 9th. I am waiting to hear whether my daughter's spouse can get the time off to go with her as she needs to stay in the city for a week post op. If not, I will be going so we may meet up. If I do go with her I am thinking of trying to get some OH members to join us for coffee the night before for a "support rally". Three great gals from here came out the night before my surgery when my nerves were crazy and went over what was going to happen step by step and it was such a good experience, very very helpful. We'll keep in touch as the day comes closer - YOU CAN DO IT!
NGD, if you and your daughter are still there on the 11th, please let me know. I am coming in for the craving change program at 5:30 and could meet you for coffee before the session. It would be nice to meet you in person.
I have been doing well losing weight until the last couple of months, and now I am stuck with this 5% weight loss hanging over me. I was hoping they would be happy with the 30+lbs I already lost but sadly no. So any advice I can get I will take.
Went and bought a couple of boosts as they are on sale this week at Walmart and with Brian's discount and coupons I am paying less that $5.50 for 6. I know I will be needing them in the near future so I will store until then.
Hope everyone's surgery goes well!

hi notoriousgrannyD....my surgery date is july 8 at 7:45 am but i may meet your daughter during my hospital stay...my name is laurie collins if she wants to look me up when she's there and maybe we can help each other out....my husband can't get the time off work so my mom is coming with me as well....glad to hear you are doing so well and that my hunger will be over soon....thanks so much for the support...
to icychick...thanks for the advice about boost in my coffee....such a nice change
Hi I am NGD's daughter. I'm struggling with the pre op diet too, I just really want something savoury!!!! I don't understand why we cant at least have broth. I've discovered a way to take away the gross boost aftertaste. I brewed a strong pot of coffee and put some cinnamon in the grounds (pre-brew) and then froze that into ice cube trays. Blend 4 of those cubes with either a chocolate or vanilla boost and its actually really good.
thanks vintage....that sounds great....if i never see another boost after this i will be a happy happy woman :) ... i hear we will be in the hospital at the same time so maybe we will meet up there ...i was just thinking of doing up some coffee ice cubes...great minds .....i'm finding it much easier if i keep busy and my house has never been cleaner but stupid food commercials on tv are killing me and i never noticed how many there were until now....but we have come this far already so i guess we gotta be strong for a bit longer and then we will have a much better life...you're lucky you have your mom that has been through all this for support....i'll watch for you in the hospital

I went to mexico and I only had 3 days of yogurt and water pre op but man does it suck!
Post op won't be so bad.... this is the hardest part imo. I felt great post op. I am almost 15 months post op and am down 105 lbs. I have been off my program and Like NGD I am leary about saying " forever" but this surgery is the best tool ever. I feel way more in control of my eating, my weight and my life.
Post op. Worry about fluids first, then protein and then fuss about other things. It took me 3 weeks to get the fluids in and even close to my protein requirements.
The first 6 months , the weight will fall off . After that - it is work. Work that honeymoon ..... you only get one shot at the honeymoon period - make it count. I think I lost the first 80- 90 lbs in that period and the next 25 in the following 6 months! I suspect it might be a year for the next 25 unless I go at it hard now!
