Waiting to Hear To Go Out of Province, Need Advice

So, I posted last time about my doctor not wanting me to go to Mexico for surgery. Well, I said okay, we will do it her way. She referred me to the program in Ontario however from my understanding, they do not take out of province patients so I kind of feel like I am wasting my time. I have heard back from Manitoba Health about two weeks go and they have approved me to go out of province however I have still not heard anything from Ontario. I am wondering if Manitoba Health would then be willing to cover me to go to Dr. Gagner then, however is he running a private clinic?

I am really confused and honestly, I don't want to sit in limbo forever, I would like to know an answer either way so I can move on. I am making another appointment with my doctor in January to see if they heard anything back from Ontario but I was referred back in October yet and generally you hear from them within a few weeks at most, at least according to their website.

Has anyone heard of an out of province resident getting into Ontario's program? I like my doctor but her really drawing the line at not going to Mexico and not even looking at the doctor I would be considering and his credentials seems kind of stuck up, for a lack of being able to think of a better term, and just assuming because they are in Mexico means they are not good doctors. But yeah, I really don't know where to go from here, any suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I think you should do what you feel is best for you.  Thousands of people go to Mexico every year for surgery (several on this board, me included). Many surgeons in Mexico are trained and board certified in the U.S. You will find many people here who would highly recommend their Mexican surgeon and will say their medical care was as good as or better than they have had here. Your doctor seems very closed-minded. You are the one having surgery, not your doctor! That's my two cents worth. The only people I have heard of on this board who have had surgical complications had surgery in Canada.

private clinics are not covered by manitoba health anywhere.  There is a doctor in medicine hat alberta that takes manitoba patients, his name is Dr. Carl Nohr.  (I hear he isn't the nicest man in the world but he is good at his work.  Manitoba health also covers him and the Edmonton program.  If you talk to Alvina300 she went to the Edmonton Program and so is Onecrazycatlady.  They are both on the Manitoba forum here and know more about that program.  Alvina300 had some complications, but she is doing better now.  Some doctors out of province will do the surgery in hospital not a clinic then it is covered by manitoba health, be careful some of them charge for things that are not covered.  Mexico is a good place to go if you are self pay.  I went to Dr. Ponce de Leon in Tijauana for the Duodenal switch procedure. (no problems at all)  Good luck on your journey- hope this helps  Barb
